Sunroof
Saw a sunroof on an older style truck today. Just wondering if these can as an option from the dealer or if is an aftermarket piece. And if so how much work is involved in putting one of these badboys in. They look very cool especially when they have 5% tint on them

You get what you pay for. Cheap roof is going to leak eventually.
There is a couple companies making a really slick aftermarket power roof. Most power roofs slide below the roof. Well no way to do that in a truck. This comapy makes the rear pop up and it slides over the roof. Very slick and it's made very simular to a factory roof and it has a drain channel Any water that get's in the channel runs down a hose out the bottom of the vehicle just like a factory roof does. Those are not cheap. Your talking $600+ with instalation. Chek with your local car dealer. Chances are they know a local company that installs them. Now if you want a good doaner car that had a roof like that factory go find a 86-92 RX7 with sun roof. Graft it into your truck. You could probably get the whole roof from a junk yard for $200. Honda CRX and Prelude also had a roof like that but the RX7 has a larger opening. I been eyeing BMW 5 searies wagons.....Sun roof opens about 3-4 FEET. I wonder how hard it would be to put one in a Burb?

the upscale model of the new gmc envoy is suppose to have a power sliding rear roof for loading and unloading sounds real neat.

If you use a quality sunroof and the installation is done right, it won't leak.

They are far from new. VW had them on Beetles in the 40's. They are actually expensive. I priced them out a few years back. You could get a pop up moon roof for about a 1/4 of the price. Now they do have a HUGE opening available. Bigh enough that if you put a power drop down rear window (goes down like the door glass. It's the whole window not just the center) it would be nearly like a convertable.
