NV4500 damper
I am looking at getting a NV4500 from a 1993 Chevy 2wd to put in my 1972 GMC to replace the SM465. The NV has a damper or such on the rear of it. Is that needed, can it be replaced with something else? Sounds like it is very hard to remove for a refresh.
And, has anyone ever used the stock shift knob on a NV4500 adding 5th to the knob? I'd rather have the factory knob over the NV knob. Thanks for the help. |

Your NV4500 looks different than mine. Mine has a longer tailshaft and does not have the damper. Here is my install using all of the stock bell housing and clutch components from the SM465. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=673588 I did not use the '72 shift knob but I see no reason it couldn't be used, it may take some modification to the threads. Re: NV4500 damper
The damper comes off with the u joint flange. Its comes off super easy. just remove the nut and slide it off.

Re: NV4500 damper
Perfect, and is the throw out bearing the same from the 465 to 4500? Or do I need the newer model's bearing.
