292 6 cylinder questions
how does a 292 mount in a 4x4? the stock V8 mounts in a K truck are in the I6 position, but the crossmember under it just goes from back mount on one side to the other, so how does the stagered mount of a 292 work with that? about how much torque would one of these make with the head ported some, 4 barrel intake and 600 cfm carb, and header? are they internally or externally balanced?

Haynes manual says the 292 makes 170 Hp and 275 lbft of torque. Not too bad as it also says the 350 only makes 320 lbft of torque. That would be stock of course so changes might improve the power somewhat.

I think 292's have their own towers, for the offset mounts.

Correct, they have offset motor mounts, the only one like it. The 250 does use the same passenger side tower. To mount it in a 4x4 i think you just use the same drivers side mount and you have to use a factory style mount on the passenger side. Im no 4x4 person in this era, but if you got a set of 2wd mounts i think they would mount in a 4x4. As far as torque, i think its been pretty well showed above. any questions you can mail me jmartin@uidaho.edu
