I saw this this morning on one of my face book pages about C-10 truck's! The future has arrived and it will be a norm in that not so far distance. I love electric vehicles but not to the point of making everything electric. They have their place though for large cities and stuff.
The fact that it's a 67 front end and they call it a 71 on the board tells me they didn't do the work on it.
Yes I know they could have changed it but you would think they would have called it a 67.
They are coming weather we like it are not though.

And it can be yours for $200k plus an initial installation cost of a charging station (plus more $ if you don't have capacity already), a lifelong monthly fee to have that charging station and the monthly operating costs. Oh and when those batteries go bad every 5-10 yrs, fork out another $5k+.

God forbid you ever have a problem with any of the electrical components. Tesla changes those up every few years so parts get obsolete quick. Technically no one ever 'owns' a tesla and their parts, so you gotta go through them anyway. Its probably $10k them electric motors alone.

But its all good, we can totally support an electric vehicle infrastructure without burning some sort of natural resource. You never have to buy gas for it and you get a measly tax credit. Yeah!!!

Its cool but you still gotta be rich to afford it. At least when they stop producing gas vehicles this thing wont be hit will all the extra taxes etc.

Meh, we all knew someone would do it. It's clean looking but I don't care for the all one color grill, headlight surrounds, etc. It may be the future for some on their truck but not me. It's neat and I do appreciate the level of work it takes to build something like this.

I agree EV has its place and especially in cities where there are large concentrations of people with short commutes. Not to mention if you want to use a truck for what a truck was originally intended I don't see a "charge" getting you very far right now.

Lastly, the recent weather event across Texas and much of the south told those that are paying attention the current power generation and distribution grid is in NO WAY ready for a large influx of EV vehicles. What's gonna happen every night between the hours of 5-8 pm when all those cars get plugged in? How about when the weather turns bad again and the green energy sources go black? Green energy can replace some level of power generation but if you don't have substantial capacity burning natural gas, coal, or nuclear you are setting yourself up for a terrible situation at some point. Lots of work to be done before we are all tooling around on battery power.

I have a many opinions on this. I think trying to make the world a cleaner place is a wonderful thing. I'm not sure that plugging our cars in to coal powered energy grids is going to accomplish anything.

I have driven everything from Nissan Leafs, to Teslas at my work, and they are completely soul less. Sure, the Teslas are fast, but they have as much character and personality as my Whirlpool washing machine. Totally uninspiring to drive.

The range thing is more problematic than advertising suggests. My brother in law has a new Model X that he drove up to our house to visit for his first long trip. My house is 2.5 hours from his (mostly uphill, as our town is on top of a mountain). When he got out of the car at my house, he said "Range anxiety is real!" I ran a 110v extension cord out to the car and we let it charge overnight. The next morning, the car had nowhere near a full charge. My brother in law asked me if I had a 220v outlet he could hook to. My 220v outlets at my house and my shop are not conveniently located for car charging, and I don't have a 220v extension cord that is a mile long because I have never needed one. We then proceeded to drive to the only charging station in my small town. It is a Tesla charger but it is not a Tesla supercharger. We left the car there for 6 hours. It still didn't have a full charge. He decided to try to drive home anyway and he made it. But not without considerable "range anxiety".

As far as the retrofits in classic cars- whatever your old rattle trap of choice is, the creaks and rattles and general lack of refinement of old cars should become much more apparent with a silent powertrain. Not to mention stripping the vehicle of a lot of the character and personality that you probably purchased it for in the first place. This need not apply to the people who only have an old car because they think it looks cool.

Also, as the owner of an independent auto repair shop, things are about to radically change for my livelihood as well as my employees' livelihoods. I like technology. I have been chasing automotive technology for years and I have managed to stay up to date on it all this time. It is a constant battle. But I might be too tired for a change this radical at this point. I just hope I can sell out before I become obsolete.

I'm a stepside fan as well and yes, I agree. Everything is about power, money, and control. Sadly, too many are willing to sacrifice their right to choose for a bit of false security. An entity that provides everything can also ration or take everything away.

EV's will take over the urban and suburban areas but practicality will still come into play. When the politicians realize they are not getting the gasoline tax they need to maintain the roads the price to get tags for an EV will go out of sight. It has to happen, there is not other way. It's already happening to a certain degree where many states charge higher rates for EV's and hybrids due to the lower gasoline consumption. The king will get is pound of flesh one way or the other.

I have read some of that proposed legislation and it actually scares me as someone who can drive up to 35-40 thousand miles per year for work. It would be a killer to my ability to do my job well. Also, as with most government intervention, builds a false economy so that EV's look more attractive over gas burners. Let the market and real economics drive demand.

Big Kev-O - I am in engineer as well and have no hatred toward the electric motors or EV's in general. What I do have a hatred for are: 1) virtuous EV drivers that look down there nose at everyone else, and 2) politicians and activists that push an agenda on the public at large saying one thing but knowing their goal is just to control another aspect of my everyday life.

Right now an EV is too expensive and too impractical for me. That's it. The new $100,000 Hummers are soon to be showing up in your affluent neighborhoods and being driven by "stars" of one flavor or another. Totally impractical for the average person. If you get one and enjoy it that is fantastic, you are free to spend your expendable income as you see fit.

I have my old points distributor and coil in a box just in case of the situation Grumpy spoke to.

It is all about money and total control. If they can make you use electricity and purchase it at their prices, it'll begin to reflect at the pump. Those of us who enjoy our daily drivers are likely to see fuel prices go up 5 or 10 times what they are now as a "penalty" for our neandethal thinking.

Chevrolet built a '62 C10 as an all electric vehicle and had it SEMA in 2019. The article says they were planning on taking it on the Hot Rod Tour, but not sure if that happened. They used existing components from the Chevy Bolt. 250 mile range on one set of batteries. I don't know... I'd drive an electric classic truck or car.

This makes me want to stockpile LS and SBC parts. It's cool that someone did it, but just not right for this truck. Also don't agree with the EV movement.

EVs wont even work in urban areas . 90% of car owners live in apartments and condos and park on the street sometimes 2 to 3 blocks from where they live. Even the affluent who own brownstones only have street parking. Very rare and expensive to have parking in NYC so unless they put charging stations at every parking spot it wont work.

The other 10 % who do have parking it might marginally work but most of them use mass transit within the burrows. Cars are for going out of the city.

The price if absolutely ridiculous. But as an engineer I don't understand everybody hatred toward electric motors. Now disliking Prius drivers I totally understand. Yes I love the sound of my chambered mufflers & lumpy cam but speed is king. Acceleration is what most of us Hot Rod guys crave. Battery technology is advancing and the torque curve of an electric motor is unbeatable. Check out the videos of the 800hp/1800tq Zombie 222 Mustang that does 0-60 in 2.4 seconds and tell me that doesn't qualify as a Hot Rod. Heck there is a 500hp Miata doing 0-60 in 1.5 seconds using two of those Warp9 motors. Burnouts are cool no mater what powers them.
