PS pulley alignment
sorry for another thread on a very common issue, but here is mine. Any help would be appreciated.
Crank, water pump and alternator line up perfectly. Alt is lined up with outside grooves. PSP seems to want to line up with inside, but as you can see is both tilted and slightly out too far. keyed shaft on PSP. I have one of those flat metal brackets, is it time to get out the grinder and remove metal until the PSP lines up? Also, do the serpentine systems seem to work well or do you get them and still have the same problems? Thanks for any help |

Re: PS pulley alignment
Looks like a long water pump with a short PS pump. Vortec engine?--- got a pic further away so we can see which brackets you're using

Re: PS pulley alignment
HT383 crate motor with vortec heads, definitely a long nose water pump. I'm wanting the PS pulley closer to the motor to make the first groove just need to figure out how to line it up. With this bracket and with the mounting points it would be tough to use shims. Nothing "square" about the mounting.

Re: PS pulley alignment
I'm not exactly sure, but you may have to change to a later P/S pump (mid 70s) with a press on pulley with a different offset, unless there is a key way pulley with a deeper offset----maybe off of a car?

Re: PS pulley alignment
Conclusion for those that may search this thread in the future.
As seen above, my power steering pump lined up horribly with the water pump and crank pulley. I thought maybe a different bracket than the one shown above would give me more ability to line it up properly so I bought the one below. Worked perfectly, just dumb luck or those solid one piece designs are probably not that good. either way, as follows are pic and the part # of what worked for me. |
