Need help ID'ing crossmeber/suspension/brakes

Working on a 64 with what I believe is a 71 or 72 crossmember. Is this correct, based on the attached photos? Let me know if you need more pics.

Looking to replace all brake components, go through suspension, and maybe change to drop spindles.

If this is indeed a 71/72 setup, are there any particular brands/vendors y'all recommend for pre-formed front brake lines? I really don't want to bend and flare my own, mainly out of laziness and time constraints.

Based on my son's issues with the front brakes, I would say look and see if you can get any kind of stamping number. I think on the spindle there was a GM number on it that might tell you. Other than that, I had to bring his to my mechanic and he was able to cross reference the rotor number and found it to be a 72 I believe. Good luck

I thought GM went to rubber upper control arm bushings in '73

I had seen a ball joint size charts from cpp
63 to 70 71 to 72 73 to 87
Ball joints are fully interchangeable in the a arms
Spindles are year related as the tampered holes are a different sizes

Great info so far... that thread is a great resource. I'll try to check casting numbers for verification.

So I have square body a-arms, and likely spindles as well. Rotors are 1-1/4" wide, so "HD" version brakes and spindles. The metal brake lines don't match square body though, and they look factory and use the factory mounting tabs on the crossmember, which is what leaned me towards 71/72 originally.

So possibly 71/72 crossmember/brake lines with 73-87 a-arms & spindles?

No, the grease fittings on the bushings are 71-72.

'73 and up would have a bolt and washer there. I would assume the whole thing came off a 71/72

I agree that that is a 71-72 crossmember/suspension based on 5 lug rotors and hard brake line is in the front of crossmember. 1967 & 1968 hard lines are in rear portion of the crossmember. Not sure if the hard lines on the 69-70 are front or rear of the crossmember. Looks like the upper ball joint has been replaced at some point.

67 72 a arms have a grease fitting at the end caps and no rubber bushings

73 87 have a nut instead of endcaps due to rubber bushing not required greasing

Based on pics 71 72 setup

1 1/4 brakes where standard until the 80s when gm offered thinner brakes only then it became a hd option

71 to 79 will get you a 1 1/4 rotor in the parts store

Looks like a 71-72 crossmember. This frame i'm working on now is a 70 and the brake lines are run on the back of the crossmember. Originally it was drum brakes and added drop spindles from Summit. I ordered my brake lines from inline tube happy with the fit. You should be able to order the 71-72 with disc brakes and be spot on.
