attaching lower door carpet panels
I just got lower door carpet panels (on card backing) for my 82 C10 and I'm looking at how to install them. Is standard application to use screws top and bottom? I hate to drill holes in the door if I don't have to. Would velcro strips top and bottom instead work? I don't want to glue them so I can't remove them. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks Glenn |

Yes they were screwed onto the doors from the factory.

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
They were screwed on, but if you want to use Velcro, that would work too. At one time I had a set of vinyl lower panels. Of course I used Velcro, I didn’t want to run screws into the vinyl.

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
Thanks all for the comments. I went with the velcro and it worked pretty well. The panel sits away from the door the thickness of the velcro strip, which could be a dust catcher so the screws may have been a better route to go but my truck is mostly a weekend coffee getter/time machine so it shouldn't be an issue in this case. I'm debating whether to add the chrome strip at the top of the carpet. USA1 has them available so I'll probably do it.
Thanks agin. Glenn |

Used really strong magnets from hobby lobby and epoxy. Works well.

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
great idea calvin78612. That why I should wait for everyone to weigh in before proceeding
my next question is regarding the carpet for the kick panels that I got with the door panels. There are two sets with different shapes, and I thought one of the sets would fit directly onto the metal kick, but neither one does so I'm not sure if have the wrong idea on it. My kicks have half height ABS panels on them and I see you can get full height ones to replace them. Will I have to install the full height ones and then put the carpet in the recess in it or is there a way I should be doing it to get these to fit directly? I thought I maybe saw a reference to a two piece kick panel, so I'm wondering if there is a piece available that fits below mine (so I don't need to deal with the its) and accepts the carpet pieces. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
You could look for the trim piece that came on the lowers to try to eliminate the dust catcher situation.

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
That’s true. And I have a couple of sets of those trim pieces. One new and then a set of used.

I need a dye for my kick panels (they are coming in black). Anyone know the best bet for a product, color (it’s a 1982 blue Scottsdale interior) and supplier? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
Would the new “black” panels benefit from being shot with primer first, or just shoot with the color ?

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
If you put those over the carpet would look even more nicer, I think.

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
So i’m still at it. Nothing is easy or quick. I bought the new dashpad in black and I’m having it dyed by someone who know what they are doing. I also got my kickpanels in black but took them on myself. After seeing TKCR’s samples of the different blues (thanks again) I did go with 72 Slate Blue. Got the dye from USA 1 and took the good advice from everyone to prep the panels properly. Actually, panel, because the passenger’s side panel has been on backorder for about 3 months. Hopefully it will be here in a few more weeks. Anyway, here’s the driver’s side panel c/w the new kick carpet that started all this.. Looks pretty good for a rookie. I tried to install it today but i’m having trouble getting the old one out. Anybody know if I definitely have to remove the parking brake assembly to do this or is it a matter or wrangling it around with a ton of patience? I got all the screws out and it’s loose but I can’t get the vent surround to clear the hole it sits in.
Dash should be here in a few weeks. Hopefully it will go in smoothly and i’ll Post a few pictures. |

Re: attaching lower door carpet panels
I'm making some progress on the dash, kick panels, etc. I ended up getting the black dash and having it dyed to the color I wanted. It was to be slate blue. but I think it turned out a bit darker than it was supposed to. Looks good though so I was okay with it and installed it. I now have to get the door panels and kicks dyed to match the new dash color so that will be happening in the next few months. in the meantime, I got a new brushed aluminum gauge surround and new brushed stainless trim for the doors and dash and got them installed today. They replaced the black ones that were part of the Scottsdale interior. Making headway, and hope to have the interior finished off for this summer.
I was planning on adding the original style interior window trim at the A and B pillars and above the doors and windows and then adding a headliner, but I saw something about having to cut slots into the cab's inner layer of metal to fasten the trim. Is this just for the chrome headliner trim (which I'm not planning on using) or does it apply to the plastic window and headliner trim as well. Can this trim be installed with just the screws or with velcro instead? I don't want to take on a bigger project than I can handle and cutting the slots scares me. I'm also reluctant to make any new holes of significance in the sheetmetal. Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this. Glenn |
