Ignition key cylinder trim ring

Is there a special tool or something to take the chrome ring that screws around the ignition key cylinder off? My 72 has three slots in it to use. I can use a screwdriver to get it mostly off but it gets tough at the end and won't unscrew anymore. I got matching keyed locks for the doors and ignition and need to change it.

There are removal tools you can purchase, such as this one from Brothers. My old man this several years ago to remove the bezel and works just fine.

You have to remove the ignition key cylinder before you can remove the trim ring. It will come loose and almost come off but the chrome trim ring on the key cylinder will not let the trim ring come off.

Thanks. That's exactly what happened. How do you remove the cylinder once you get it loose?

See that little hole in the lock cylinder? Turn the key to "Accessory" and push a paper clip into that hole. When you pull the key out, the lock cylinder should come with it. If you live somewhere other than a dehydrated paradise like the California desert like I do, you may need a couple spritzes of lube.

Thanks a ton. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
