79 5000 mile truck

Just saw this one on eBay and man it is clean and expensive. But it only has 5000+ miles and is a 4x4.

That shifter sure is beat up for 5,000 miles but it is a good looking truck. Not sure about that front bumper either, it seems off.

I don't buy that one bit, looks more like a well cared for 105K than a true 5K miles.

I think you are probably right. It would be nice to see it in person, though: I think the truck is a true survivor that the seller has ruined with crappy aftermarket bolt ons and a respray.

That seat is in awfully good condition. I had one and that material cracks very easily. The original vinyl is nearly unobtainable so I think it is real: it would be too costly to acquire, and a professional flipper would just use a standard off the shelf fabric kit if he wanted to dress up an old truck for sale.

I refuse to believe that a base model truck like that had sport bumpers and sport mirrors, nor do I think those ralleys came with the truck, either. They aren't on the build sheet, just cheap upgrades to attract unknowledgeable buyers.

I don’t know exactly why but something about this shot of the door handle doesn’t look right in the paint.

I don’t recall that the hood latch/centre section of the core support behind the grille was painted body color? All of mine have been painted black.

I agree something is off with that truck. I don't buy 5k miles.

Re: 79 5000 mile truck

Check out the body lines on the driver's door and where the cab meets the bed. I would expect a 5k mile truck to be better than that. Someone didn't do a good job of lining up the bumper either. Aftermarket piece maybe? What color were the license plate brackets for the rear bumper painted from the factory?

Thank you, Keith.

My guess is both bumpers have been replaced. They didn't paint the license plate bracket the correct color

Yep. And there should be no need to replace bumpers on a 5k mile truck.

Re: 79 5000 mile truck

Highly suspect . Hood and roof are much more faded than the top of fenders and side pillars which get just as much sun. Chassis looks terrible for 5k, underside of the hood the black is to perfect there should be overspray from the body color. Front bumper is definitely ascue .

The frame on my burban was nicer and it had way more mileage than this truck . And the paint had a much more even shine

Re: 79 5000 mile truck

I am going down to Grand Rapids today, where this truck is supposedly, and I wish I had enough time to see it in person and report back. There's a ton of red flags on this thing.

Re: 79 5000 mile truck

Looks like a repaint too. Unless it was kept in someones living room for the last 40yrs. Would be nice if the seller showed the before photos prior to spiffing it up too.

Reminds me of the movie scene in "Gone in 60 Seconds" (the original '74 make) where they're turning back the odometers.
