Dealer aftermarket hood ornaments?
Went out to a friends farm and in his AD collection I snagged this hood ornament off a truck.
My brother said the dealers used to add them to the trucks. I've never seen one on and AD before but I'm going to try and salvage it for my truck. Does anyone know anything about them? it's such an original piece and so cool I have no idea how I'm going to fix the mounting holes and if anyone has any suggestions I would be more then open to suggestions. Thanks. |

Re: Dealer aftermarket hood ornaments?
That looks like a Pontiac or copy of a Pontiac hood ornament Either a 53 Pontiac hood ornament or a knockoff from a parts house or place like JC Whitney that didn't have the face that had the light in it.
That may be off a less fancy model of 53 Pontiac than a Chieftain But my guess is that it is aftermarket. Being that you are in Alberta that might be a 53 Canadian Pontiac hood ornament. Probably worth a lot more to a guy restoring a Pontiac than junking up the otherwise clean front end of a Chevy truck. The dealer (s) here just didn't load trucks up with trinkets when they sold them. The local farmers like my grandfather just didn't pay for anything that wasn't functional and my grandfather had a semaphore turn signal rather than lights installed on the fender. That turn signal today would cause some of the stick on trinket brigade to go nuts.

Re: Dealer aftermarket hood ornaments?
It may have a more politically correct name in the states now. I think it was made by Franz. I just remember it made good toast in the mornings.

Re: Dealer aftermarket hood ornaments?
That Pontiac hood ornament with the clear head is super cool and if it lit up that's even more awesome. Maybe I wont put it on my truck and see if I can sell it instead. I'm sure some Pontiac guy out their might like it for his ride.
Thanks for the input. |
