How Much Power Gain

I get to order my edelbrock 1406 on monday,and im wondering what kind of power gain i will get from it. Im going from a q-jet to the edlebrock. The engine is a 350, fresh rebuild, flat tops, stock heads, performer intake, true roller timing chain, headers, full 2 1/2 exhaust,. Is there gonna be a significant power increase? Btw, how do i hook up an electric choke?

I dont know how much power you will gain, but the wiring is simple. You need a "keyed" 12v power source to the choke and a ground.

a properly set up Q-Jet will out perform a edelbrock 600 on a 350..that being said the Q-Jet is probably not calibrated right..so you will feel an improvement..how much? its determined by how far out your Q-jet is now

i agree with bigjim though i hate qaudrajunks myself they arent all that bad but when they are out of adjustment they are usually wayyyyy out of adjustment it will probably run better all around thats if the edelbrock doesnt give you a fit.the choke only needs a keyed 12v source to work properly its easy to hook up

Im with BIGJIM... if you see more power from the Edelbrock...its not cause the EAdelbrock is better...its cause theres something wrong with the Qjet. The Qjet..in my book is complicated...but for someone who knows how to tweak em, there great. I had a carb Shopped prepped Q-jet on the 402 in my 73 camaro, it blew away the carter, Edelbrock & Holley I had on it.
Edelbrock carbs are ok...prefer a tuned Qjet or a properly selected Holley or Demon over a Carter or Edelbrock generally though . John

The huge advantage of an AFB style carb IMO, is they are so simple, yet still better than a Holley.

from my experience a edelbrock causes a power loss rather then a power gain, i refuse to use one unless i need it to go from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel (thats why the 74 has one) as soon as i get a q-jet and get it rebuilt the edelbrock is coming off... ive had 3 quads, 2 edelbrocks, and 1 holley on my 71 K20, nothing has made near the power of the holley except one of my quads, and it was a holley rebuilt one

I noticed a huge difference in power when I changed my 1406 to the Q Jet. A dialed in Q Jet can kick some butt.

who can make quadrajets run right? i may just stick my quadrajet on the new intake... but i wouldnt know how to tune a quadrajet... anyone know who might?

oh. so my quadrajet wont work at all? not even if i can get an adapter for spread bore to square bore or whatever... ive seen people with stock quadrajets on performers but i didnt know...

Performers use either type, spreadbore or square bore.

Normal Performer RPMs use square bore. As stepside pointed out, Edelbrock also offers a Performer RPM for spreadbore applications.

You always have the option of using an adapter if you wanted, but in my opinion, they are cheesy. Just buy the proper manifold to fit whatever carb you want and be done with it.
