Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

I want to keep the column shifter for the normal PRNDM/S. Is there a way to hook up something like a rocker switch or even a small hidden shifter when I want to manually shift the transmission in M/S mode?

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

The only thing I have seen aftermarket was a floor shifter with the tap shift feature.

Or people have fabbed in late model steering wheel assemblies to get the column shifter, and tap shift.

You might want to check over on LS1tech. Lots of different swaps detailed over there.

I have been on there. Most people just want to talk about their 4l transmissions.

This should work for what you want to do. https://www.speartech.com/product_p/tssb.htm

That one has to use an E38 ECM. I have an E93 if I recall, which is the Gen 5 version.

I did find a couple others though, so I think I am good. Thanks!

I was probably going to use the Lokar kit, but I haven't gotten that far either. I need to get a new column first, then I can go from there.

I always thought it would be cool to have a rocker switch on the console assuming a guy has buckets.

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

PSI sells a wireless paddle shifter setup that gets power from the horn wire in the wheel. In my conversations with them they told me it works with the e67 ecm I am using (my engine harness is from PSI). Thinking about giving it a try for the 6L90 in my truck. Looks like for aftermarket wheels only. With a stock steering wheel would require a lot of modification, if it is even possible.

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

You would think that you would just have to find the three wires in the harness and run them to a rocker switch. Do you have a pin readout for the E93?

The wires for the tap up/tap down go to the BCM, so not as easy as hooking them up to the ECM.

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

It looks like Swaptimeusa has a kit that will work and uses a rocker switch. Supposedly, you don't even need to reprogram the transmission, although that is probably not a bad idea if you are doing any modifications. Their set-up works with any ECM. Most of them seem to work with the E38.

I have some time on this yet, but it looks definitely doable!

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

I'm running a PSI harness on my LS3 conversion as well, might reach out to PSI and see how much to add this harness on? Mine is a 58X harness if that makes a difference.

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

I am installing it this winter, so I will know if the unit works in the spring. The one from Swaptime is no longer available. He claims he could not get the chip needed to build the units any longer. Is there a chip inside?

There are a few other companies that make the unit. I am trying one of those.

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

Ended up purchasing the paddle shifter from PSI https://www.psiconversion.com/produc.../TAP-1000.html The paddle module is installed at steering wheel but I still have a lot to do. Have spoke to them a couple of times and the engineer there insists it will work in my application. Connects to trans by only one wire and requires changes to ECM. Hope to check out operation in a month or two.

I am not sure what they mean by changes to ECM, but I was told by 2 places that it is not a wise idea to reprogram the ECM to a Corvette O/S if that is what they require. Speartech requires this for their set-up and you run a 50% chance of bricking the ECM.

I have no idea if it is accurate, but it does make sense. Good luck!

Re: Anybody using a 6l80 in their swap?

Im not done with the swap, but HPtuners reads tap up and tap down correctly when in scanning mode. I usedthe Corvette wiring diagram, 3 resistors per that diagram and wired just like the diagram.
If you don't run the BCM, you have to change the settings in the tune for this to work.

Thanks for this. Helps clarify the instructions and information I was told. I should have said changes need to made to the TCM tune parameters.
@joyridin Should be able to avoid any complete reflashing. The main reason I got the engine, trans and ecm all from the same ZL1 Camaro. The TCM located in the 6L trans needs to be flashed if not matched to the ecm.

Any 6l that came in a car should be set up for manual shifting already. Truck 6L transmissions were not set-up that way and use a different O/S on the trans from what i understand.

By any chance, did you get this to work or did you try it? I built the circuit and wired it up. I changed the settings with HP Tuners, but nothing. I checked resistance and it is correct. I am wondering if the voltage is varying as I have the power wire right to the fuse box.
