Driveline question
My 72 short bed step side c10 came with a 2 pcs driveline 350 ci and 3 speed tranny. PO change it to a 350 automatic tranny. Question is, Would a 1 pcs driveline be wise or a good idea ?

Re: Driveline question
Go with a one piece. I wouldn't hesitate at all to put one in a short bed.

Re: Driveline question
I just purchased and fit a one piece for my 70 short-bed. No issues at all on clearance.

Re: Driveline question
A one-piece driveline works fine on a short box. Something to consider is they made the THM350s in three different tail shaft lengths. Your truck would have had a short tails shaft (6") from the factory. If your transmission tail shaft is longer the driveline is shorter and less likely to whip. I am confident that was the exact reason for the extended length on some of the 350-transmissions. They were up to 12" long.
Unless I had a THM350 on the floor I would consider installing a 7004R or what is now called a 4L60. It also has a longer case which will shorten the drive-line overall length. Although it is not much, less than 3". Comes with the added benefit of lower cabin noise and up to 30% better mileage. |

Re: Driveline question
My previous 72 K-20 LWB came stock with a one piece shaft as well as my current 72 K-10 SWB. While the t-case adds some length to the power train in the 4x4, SWB 2WD one piece should be no problem with a reputable builder. Note the shaft diameter in the LWB is 4"+. Current K-10 is maybe 3".
