I've seen 'em that won't idle, yet run otherwise....with a bad vacuum leak. Put your hand over the carb (air cleaner off) and have someone start it. If it runs then, you have a vacuum leak.
Have you changed the intake? How about the carb? Check all of the hoses on the carb. Does it have power brakes? Check the hose from the intake to the booster. Check the PCV hose. Is it on? Without hearing it, and based on your description of the problem, I'm going with a vacuum leak. You may have knocked a hose loose when you were doing your "tune up".

Sound to me that you need to turn up your idle screw. What kind of carb is it?

well 2 days ago i pressed down on the center coil wire and the idle fixed to normal. But a few miles down the road and it was acting up again. But I am not sure if the coil wire being bad woudl cause it to not idle. but runa d start fine.
not sure what kind of carb it has. Standard I would assume. Rich

well today I finally had a chance mess with the truck. I set the idle and it seems to idle ok. but when you put into drive it almost wants to die. So I ended up setting the idle a little higher then I would like. but I do not like they way it is idleing. How do I set the idle when the truck is in drive with the emergency brake engadged. cause it seems when you press the brake pedal down the engine boggs down. is there a reason for this?
