Just Curious ??? for you sellers???

How many of you sellers out there get guys pm'ing you about parts, they say they want them and you send them a shipping price and you never hear from them again? I pm them and ask if they still want the parts they say they wanted, some never answer and they have checked their pm's too. Some never check their pm's according to the tracking. Man I don't mean to B*TCH but this drives me crazy, I go a 100 MPH all day and most the night trying to keep up with questions and pics, and yes I get behind but if I get a pm I answer it and I get approx. 25 PM's daily. I LOVE doing this and will not quit selling, my wife isn't liking it very well lately because of the time but! All a buyer has to do is reply if they don't want the part, don't leave the seller hanging, its rude. Sellers time is valuable, they don't need window shoppers, you know you have to pay for shipping when buying something on the net! I know that this is part of the deal but I've noticed it's getting more frequent on the board lately, or atleast it is on my end. Not pointing fingers but I do have a list. I do realize its holiday time but I'm taking time to find out shipping price too. Thanks to all that do reply to me, this is for the ones that don't reply to my pm's. Just venting!!!!!!! Thanks Randy

Randy it seem's you have this problem all the time I would say it's time to crack the whip... I too have had the window shopper's but most have been upfront with me on yes/no weather they want the part.. I really feel for you guy's who sell alot of part's. It's alot of work getting shipping, boxing up the part and sending the part most of us work daily job's and still try to get item's shipped.. If you are wanting to buy a part be upfront with the seller and don't just kick tire's.. I know I have delt with you before on part's and I got what you said it was and it got here super quick probly even before the m.o. reached you or so it seemed..

I had a "side" business building motorcycle accessories that I just put on hold so I can get some stuff done for my fulltime career, and I can understand what you're saying about "window shoppers" and not having time (trying to juggle a career, a side business, some personal time, and time with my family) but I can also understand the buyers wanting to get a deal and shopping for the best deal. It gets frustrating sometimes, but eventually those "window shoppers" are gonna be ready to buy what's on their list, so the time it takes to help the shoppers now can easily pay off later in terms of "customer loyalty".

Thanks Frenchblue!!!!!!!
Martin64, I understand loyalty, I've dealt with the public in business since I was 10 at my dads business and still do today at my other job, thats 28 years with the public, being courteous is big in my book, all they have to do is reply yes or no, most of the ones I'm talking about pm me first wanting the part. I've said it before and I'll say it till I die, TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TREATED!! I know everybody is busy in life now, I've been up since 4:00 am and I'm still doing the parts deal at 11:40 pm. I LOVE it except for situations like I'm talking about! Time for bed finally till the daughter wants fed. Thanks Randy

parts

Randy, I'll take it! Don't really care what it is....shipping to 80004 please. Just kidding! I feel for you. Have just been selling a few parts as to not get in over my head. You must have some serious organizational skills! I might need to take a trip out some time, I'm sure I could find a trailer full of stuff I don't need to bring back with me! Thanks for your service. What you do is a service and I for one appreciate it. It's not helpfull just for finding parts but also to be able and judge perceived value of these items. Keep up the good work!

Also If I have done it to any of the suppliers I probally forgot ! I do that a lot here latley, I think the new year is getting to me ! Also I know I have asked a lot of suppliers about parts that I plan to buy from them just need the cash ! Have a good New Year Randy ! Enjoy the baby they grow so fast !

Yup got a lot of pm's for the things i have tried selling on here even for the tow hooks, but people want to pay the price but not the shipping or ship it to them for the selling price..I don't understand that one.

I get them a shipping price and never get a response..
I held on to 3 things i could have sold to other people. then lost out altogether..

I'm not rich thats why I don't pay shipping to a buyer even if it is an expensive item..

Oh well, to each there own I guess.

As always, good times

I have a feeling that many guys on this board are on a budget. which is fine. However, it seems that guys get excited when new posts come up in the classifieds and want to "jump" on the parts offered and be first. then they don't have the $$$ to buy. It is hard to swalow your pride and say "I can't afford this". I don't think that any seller would have a problem with them saying this.

this has only happened to me once. the buyer siad that the MO is in the mail. I never got it or any response from the buyer. It' ok with me though, I won't box things up until I get paid. I would rather him say, "I'll send you 50 bucks for now if you can hold it for a couple of weeks until pay day"

Maybe there should be some kind of rule where a buyer is required to paypal a small deposit to the seller upon agreement of price. Just as there is a rule about all parts requiring a price. Or say, the first one with a deposit gets the part. The part isn't sold until it has money on it. etc. etc.

I have also had many good transactions here. so it's not all bad.

Randy,

You are one of the most responsive persons in the world and most people are not that way. I believe that you get a lot of browsers since you are well known and they don't see the need to respond back.

I believe that it all goes back to peoples values. It would bother you a lot if you did not give an answer where as others could care less. I believe the good makes up for the bad, so I hope that you don't change or become discouraged. This world needs folks like you to make things happen!

Have a Happy New Year!

Jim

I havent bought any of the used items I see posted on the board, so I cant speak from experience. I do see a lot of request for shipping cost to this or that zip code. Maybe it would be possible just to figure out a cost on shipping to diffrent areas and add that to the cost of the part. Lets say if your selling an item for
$10 and you know the weight and size. You can say the cost of the part shipped to the west coast is $14 to the east coast is $18......and so on . I know this cant be done with all items, but it might save everyone some time on little odd ball stuff.

I hear your frustration, that's one reason why I got out, though it's part and parcel of doing business. I too have changed my mind on several occasions but I always let the seller know and have even offered $ if they had gone out of their way to obtain the part.

I may occasionally ask about pricing for parts I know I can't buy right now. I do this so when I do have some money, I know what I can get and what it should cost. I am usually good about responding though about whether I want it now or not. I will buy if it's a good deal, but most things I need now are big, heavy and expensive. So, I am shopping for the best price. If 2 people have the same item for the same price, but one has a shipping cost that is $10 cheaper, I am going to go with the cheaper one. $10 is $10! It is rude not to let the seller know if you really want the item though. I have been left hanging before and it does suck. My rule is, if you say you want it and tell me you're sending money, then I wil hold it til the money gets here. You have 7 days for the money to reach me. After that, it goes to the next guy who asked about it, then he has 7 days to pay me. I try to keep in contact with the people that ask about parts. I put them in order or when they asked, I go down the line. It will drive you crazy, especially on the scale that you do it teeitup, you are a better person than I am.

i generally try not to sell on this board because of all the "i'll take it" "consider it sold" "the checks in the mail" comments and no follow thru and i've always posted up front the total price with shipping. i also think there's alot of "jumping on the post "as quick as possible only to realize a few days later that they didn't have any money when they spoke up and they have no way of getting any money to follow thru with a transaction
i stick to ebay whenever possible , this year 400+ items without any problems

I keep my "truck money" in an envelope in the drawer right underneath this keyboard. If I say I want something, my word is good. That means I have the money right in front of me and I'm ready to do the deal.

I've bought from Randy before with great results. Randy, when you get PMs from me looking for parts, you don't have to worry, I've got money in hand.

Please don't take this wrong, I have no problem with it. I would actually like to do business with you. Anyway,I have asked for info a few times on your parts and I always get only part of the information I asked for. It takes 2 or 3 emails to get shipping, condition, color, etc. I'm not one to waste time, so I usally give up after 2 tries. The parts I've tried to get from you are small so I don't know if that's as big of deal. I never commited to buying, so I never replied again. My point is, answer as many questions as you can in one email. It will save everyone time. Good Luck.

I've recently purchased parts from you Randy. You always pm me and answers my questions quickly. Your shipping is just as fast and I would say that your parts are just as described or better. If people take sellers like you for granted then shame on them. Of course it's unfortunate that you have to put time aside for those that don't have any real intention of buying.

For window shoppers:
If people are out there window shopping to find better prices I can honestly tell you from my own personal experiances that Randy sells excellent quality NOS and used parts and his prices are more than reasonable.

By the way Randy, I plan on buying more parts from you that I have been eyeing but Christmas has been rough on the funds and my wife has a short leash on me right now . I'll have to get back to you after the holidays.

Customers

It's a tough situation. Being the owner of a tool and die shop, I take care of my customers to the best of my ability. I try to do the same when selling truck parts (I just picked up the 31st truck I will have stripped in the last 2 years). Most of the time, I will give people a long rope on the truck parts. It's a hobby or sideline for me. If it's your mainstay, I would treat it a little different. Right now, I have been waiting for a $75 part from a board member that was paid for months ago, I have two trucks that have deposits on them that have been sitting for a while in my yard (wife's happy), and all kinds of other dealings. I don't get too upset. It's just a hobby for me. I have had good and bad luck with people saying that they are going to purchase stuff. I have alot of ebay deadbeat buyers. To be honest, I don't even bother giving them negative feedback. I may send them a "spicy" e-mail thanking them for their "generosity", but that's about it. I guess to sum it up, sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. You do have a good reputation for selling parts (I have bought stuff from you) and I'm sure if you handle it professionally, you will continue to do so. Brian

Randy, Im not saying it to be a smart a**, but that is business. There are certain negatives that come with being in business, and that is one of them.

The problem you describe is the main reason I usually give a discount for using paypal. The transaction is done and not tied up waiting for money that might not get there.

First of all Thanks to all of your for responses!!! I'd like to add a few things to this
70Jimmy, I'm sorry if you have to pm me a few times about a small part I have, I do not store my parts at my house so I do not know what all I have or condition, you can ask anybody thats been here how much stuff is around here, 1st pm you ask, then 2nd pm I tell you condition, 3rd pm if you want it shipping price. I usually have that many pm's or more with alot of my customers. I don't think you can do a deal with just one pm. And I do sell and give away alot of small parts.
68 suburban, I know its part of business but lately its getting out of hand, and the worst thing about it is EBAY is better lately, they buy, I tell them shipping price, they send money. I'd rather sell on here though, I LOVE this board, it just has a few issues!
I'm not trying to complain, its just frustrating!!!! Almost anybody that sells will agree with me.
Thanks Randy

Randy, This is one reason I say first money gets the part. Not the first guy who responds to a post. The only time that I do anything different is when someone says "I'll take it" and then calls or emails me with his addi so I can quote the shipping. (Usually I get a call because I accept credit cards) It is too hard and time consuming to do it any other way. Too many times I will get a responce and while I figure the shipping, someone else will PM that person telling him that they have the same part for less money, so you never hear from them again... There has been more than one time that someone says they are interested in my part only to wait a weak while they window shop for a cheaper part somewhere else. At the end of the weak, when they didn't find one cheaper they get back with me and then give me their information. Some of the time, then I have to tell them that the part is sold... Agrivating to them..,, yes probably, however you are in the buisness of selling parts, not holding them while someone else makes up their mind if they want it or not. I also have lists of people who have pre-ordered some of the parts that I have had reproduced, and when they came in, (because I do not have the exclusive on them, and another vender, who had nothing to do with the reproduction of the part is able to get the same part) That vender will offer up the same part for a couple of dollars less, just to get the order. This is also just a pert of doing buisness. I was responsible for the reproduction of all of the 4X4 bumper brackets, and since they have been reproduced I have only sold one set. (I had over 10 sets sold from pre-orders and not one person who pre-ordered bought a set from me) Like I said, this is the price of being in this buisness... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Randy, I just have to say your still one of the best here in my book.
I Pm'd Randy once about a tilt column and told him I didnt have the cash that he was wanting for it but I did want it . Randy held this for about 2 weeks for me until I could send him his cash . I have pm'd him window shopping but I told him what I was doing.
Randy I'm also with purpleslammed69 about paypal . There have been times I had money in paypal that I could have bought some of the Items you had and would have loved to get but the wife knows what I have in the truck fund (which is 0) and says I cant get in the household fund so paypal is the only thing I can buy with that she knows nothing about lol . just my 2 cents
