Can Someone Tell Me What This Is/Does?

Removed my heater box to swap out the heater core.... noticed this in the area where the core is near...... What is this thing/what does it do?

Those are the resistors that are used to set the blower speed.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like the resistor that controls either the fan speed or the variation on the heat output. It produces heat so it is installed inside the box so that air moving across it cools it.

As mentioned, it controls the fan speed. Temperature is controlled by the blend door.

And when current if flowing through those resistors the byproduct is heat. That's why they are mounted there.

Thanks guys! I haven't had to replace that yet (I knew the resistor existed but my fan speed works fine) and I didn't realize that's what it looked like on the other side!

That's a slick C2 in your sig pic sir..... Can't tell too much from it other than it's not a '63 (fake hood vents not there), what year? '64 or '65?
