Not a bad looking truck at all. Good sized tires that fill out the wheel wells. Hope you can get your grandson to go old school.

Aw.

I'm not sure much influence from us was required for that one.

Re: You all are a bad influence

Thanks for the kind words...
someone has lowered it with springs up front.....but the lower A arms are sitting on the bump stops
First order of business.....put stock springs back in with drop spindles and disc brakes up front....just got the kit..
Now if Grumpy will turn loose of that spare sway bar...I'll be all set with the front suspension...!
I had this bumper off my 67 project....it will have new ones
BTW thanks to Grumpy... the '67 is at body shop now...

Re: You all are a bad influence

Awesome find! Seems that the previous owner did a pretty nice job refreshing the engine compartment! Maybe y'all can work on it together and then he can buy it from you! That would be a sweet first ride! That bumper you swapped on to it looks much better too!

Your disc conversion thinking is spot on, my opinion.
I’m wondering about that Astro van master cylinder, the pickup cams with?

obviously someone adapted it to make power drum brakes, surprisingly it stops pretty well for the way it's set up.
I have a new dual diaphragm booster and disc/drum MC that will be going on with the front discs...

You need to look up "bad influence". That's a nice truck, and helping out your grandson is a very good thing.

If that was a red 69 GMC and I had enough money I'd be trying to buy it off you, would match my father's first truck.

Re: You all are a bad influence

Funny how when you hang around these old trucks, the fever sneaks up on you. That will (and already is) , make a super nice pickup. I love 68s and I love swb trucks. I always shyed away from stepbeds cause it was hard to make lower molding look like anything. In my older years, I have come to like solid stepbeds. Good luck with it.

Re: You all are a bad influence

That M/L van master cylinder is a nice unit.

I had one on my Chevelle for a little while. After going through almost the entire catalog of GM master cylinders (a GM brake development engineer can do that sort of thing) that is the one I settled on. It resulted in really nice feeling pedal travel, force and overall feel.

The only problem....was that front reservoir for the rear brakes was SO SMALL. When mounted on a passenger car the m/c is tilted at quite an angle. I had to park at the end of the driveway (where the ramp angle was steepest) and jack the back of the car up just to top off the m/c.

In hindsight, one could probably pop the reservoir portion off the aluminum base and replace it with a different plastic piece from a pickup if the size proved to be a problem.
