Converting Truck door to Suburban door, is it possible?
***Posting over here to get mores eyes on this question**
Has anyone converted a good truck door to be used as a suburban door, talking front door. It is my understanding that the main door structure (inner and out skins) are the same between the truck and the suburban but the window frame is where they differ. Can you just move the window frame from the suburban door being replaced to the good donor truck door. If so how difficult is that, what is required? Just some spot rivets or is it much more complicated? |

My body guy just had my truck door split and to me it looks like if you removed the frames you could swap just them with some spot welds.

A competent fab guy could do it. We made Blazer doors from truck doors for my kids Jimmy. And that’s the same thing GM did. The Suburban window frame is the only difference.

Truck doors are easy to find and are reproduced. Suburban doors.....not so much. They are both the same except the top rear corner of the glass. Trucks are rounded, Suburbans are square. I have a rusted out Suburban door that I want to cut off the glass frame and mount it on a truck door.

If you have the square hoops [top part of the door] it is a matter of about six or seven spot welds. I did some doors for a former member[Wiggy HD] RIP and he bought a pair of new doors and they were too tall to fit the truck. I drilled out the welds moved the hoop down into the door and rewelded smoothed and finished those welds. everything fit perfect then so yes you need the spot weld drill stuff[ I have one of those almost $500 SnapOn spot weld cutter but I use a double ended drill bit 1/8 and one of those uni-bit or christmas tree bits whatever they are called to do 99% of the spot welds I remove]. I remove a lot I mean LOTS of spot welds. So I dont think you would have any problems doing what you want done . Jim
