Seat Cover

I'm having one heck of a time finding a seat cover to replace what's in this '70 Chevy. The SPID says the trim code is "613 Custom Cloth."

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find an identical replacement for this seat cover.

Is it this? Can't see why they call it "charcoal".

Re: Seat Cover

It’s the Custom Deluxe cloth option, not to be mistaken for the houndstooth. I’ve been looking for the exact seat cover, exact color. I can’t find anyone who carries it. You can buy the fabric from SMS interiors and have someone like Tim make it for ya.

Re: Seat Cover

Never found any for my 72'. Bought material from SMS and had a shop in town do it for me. SMS had the vinyl embossed also.

Thanks, I'm thinking that doesn't look quite right.

That's two for purchasing material and having a shop sew it up.

This might be right if it were the proper color. Hard to say without a photo of the product.

Thanks for your responses. This appears to be more of a challenge than I originally thought it would be.

Re: Seat Cover

Schovil, your vinyl looks to be perfect. If it is you’re halfway there! Just buy the cloth material and have an upholsterer replace the insets. The houndstooth is nice and more readily available, but if you’re like me, it’s not how the truck came from the factory.

Allchevy, that’s the exact seat, beautiful. Not to hijack Schovil’s original post, but How long ago did you have that made and how much do you have in it, if you don’t mind me asking?

Davis Chevy, since we can’t see that pattern and because it’s listed for just 71 and 72, I’m guessing that’s the Super Cheyenne Houndstooth. That’s the only two years that fabric was available, I believe. The fabric in the custom deluxe option was the same fabric that GM used for a number of years in their autos.

Re: Seat Cover

I have a Cheyenne, so it had the all vinyl scroll seat. Was not great in summer heat and humidity, so I wanted cloth inserts but not the houndstooth. About 5 years ago I contacted both SMS and Cars Inc for a Custom Deluxe seat cover in dark olive.

Both companies sent small fabric samples before I ordered. Notice the SMS quote for $695 does say front and rear seats. I never asked if it would be half $ for just a front bench. I had ordered door panels from SMS some years before and there were some issues with fit and the price quote. Not saying I wouldn't use SMS again, but was willing to try someone else.

I ordered the seat cover from Cars Inc and I remember getting it in about 1 week, and installed it myself. The installation isn't perfect. The top seam strays off of the foam edge a bit, but I was happy with it. It's more noticeable in the picture than in the truck.

Hope this helps,
Don

Re: Seat Cover

I have the blue Cars Inc cover on my truck, the one Larry posted the link to. It’s the correct seat cover you need. Cars Inc covers are very nice. My 72 is 607 Blue custom cloth. This is the best picture I could find of mine. I know I have a better one somewhere.

I will look into the Cars, Inc. option a bit more to see if they have my color.

I might of beat you to it. They apparently custom make that seat to order, they’re out of the fabric, and it’ll be 7 months between getting the fabric and sew time. If you run across something different, schovil, let me know. Maybe we can do a “two-fer” deal with someone.

We ordered material from SMS in 2018 and had one done. We were at about the same place on cost and I took a long time to get the material.

I would say some of the vinyl is in good order. If you look at the top of the seat you can see the vinyl is opening up like a tiger lily.
