This is after three nights in the barn with the carb off the intake. Luckily I happened to be installing an edelbrock manifold and not just messing with the carb or something. I found a good sized stash of acorns in five out of eight intake ports. I am worried that I might have to pull the heads to make sure that one of the little bastiches didn't squeeze through on open intake valve and die in the cylinder.

I do battle with mice all the time. I wish that there were a way to gas them!

I have three cats and I set traps all the time in addition to rat poison, (in areas where the cats can't get to), and still they are around.

I put screens in the cowls of the trucks and this seems to keep them out of the truck cabs anyway.

It is a constant fight!

We used to rent a barn on a farm near to a grain store to work on cars in. The rats around there were the size of cats and the concrete floor of the barn was hollow with rat burrows underneath. Every so often we used to stick a garden hose up an exhaust pipe, stick the other end down a rat hole and leave the engine running for a while, exhaust fumes used to come up all ver the place, kept the little buggers numbers down a bit and gave us some satisfaction anyway!

I have mice and rock squirrels up here in the mountains.
I put in boxes of Decon and I put a tray of moth balls under the hood and in the cab. It helps but it's a constant battle, it does not help that I don't drive the truck in the winter.

Another trick is to put a couple of those Christmas tree airfreshners in the cab. A friend of mine learned this trick from a salvage yard owner. It seemed that the wrecks with the trees didn't have mice and the ones without did. I have done this with a couple of airplanes that do alot of setting and on the last annual there were no mice in the one that is a flyer.

No kidding. I just put 2500 into this motor. I don't think acorn mash in half the cylinders would have done it much good.

Here's a new one for you guys. Put in a couple bars of Irish Spring soap. I think it works pretty good. I tried moth balls in my 66 Chevelle when it was in storage and it didn't work. Those damn mice chewed up the original interior in the Chevelle. My girlfriend told me to use the Irish Spring soap and it has worked pretty good so far. I would put a bar in the engine compartment and 2 inside the truck. I put 4 in the Chevelle and it seemed to work. Try it. What have you got to lose?

I have actually heard of the irish spring trick as well as the air fresheners. Also scented dryer sheets are supposed to work pretty well. I have never tried any of these but I will probably not be driving the dump much this winter so I may give some of them a shot.

chevydog66 beat me to it. Irish Sping soap is the secret we use for storing boats for the winter.
Get a bar and a couple of old Cool Whip or similar containers. Shave the bar down with your pocket knife. Put the shavings in the container(s). Then put the containers in each compartment. In my cars I put one on the front floor, one in the back, and one in the trunk.

Plus come spring your boat/car/truck has that "clean Irish scent".
