stumped
Im trying to rewire the ignition on my 68 chevy c10 with a 307...thats where the trouble began. Im installing the pertronix coil replacement module and it says if you have a ballast resister wire it one way...if you done wire it another....
Does anyone know if this truck has a ballast resister? It was bone stock before I touched it....it was my grandads farm truck. I was hoping to crank it today after an engine rebuild. Thanks in advance for the help if you can. Glenn in Atlanta |

The stock ignition wire is a resistor wire. It acts the same as a ballast resistor. Welcome to the board from Las Vegas!

The distributor wire is a resistor wire. I haven't used your distributor but the GM HEI need full power so you need to run a 10 gauge wire to the distrib from a switched power source. I would imagine it is the same with the pertronix. If you look at the difference in the instructions between the to it will have you bypass the resistor most likely. maybe someone who has put one in can add here but I think you will be ok.

The wire that was connected to the + terminal on the coil looks like it goes inside the firewall. Do I need to replace this wire with a new wire????
Electronics isnt my bag! Maybe I should have stuck with the points.... Glenn |

I also cant figure out how to get the manual choke cable off. I replaced the 2 barrel with an edelbrock 4 barrel and now the choke cable is about 4 inches to short. It connects to the opposite side of the carb is why. Any ideas on where to get a new choke cable or how to make the existing one longer.
Again thanks for the help. Glenn in Atlanta |

Check the instructions, if it said take out the resistor run a new 10 gauge wire from the fuse block to the distrib.
As far as the choke goes the auto parts store should have the parts to adapt the choke cable or go with the edelbrock electric choke, the electric choke on the 1406 and 1411 is a lot nicer that a manual choke up here in cold weather.

Leave the wire(YELLOW) as is on + side of coil. Run RED wire from module to switch source on fuse panel. Run BLACK wire from module to -side of coil. Just changed one on a 72--runs fine.

What jhow66 said. I actually just replaced mine (pertronix) with a under cap module from GMC pauls. It's a Breakerless SE http://www.gmcpauls.com/pictures/Bre...20&%20Info.htm
Easy to install uses the stock wire.
