What happened ???

It seems like there are fewer and fewer posts on this website on a daily basis.

Looking back over the years, this site was way more active.

Part of the problem, may be the age of 1960-1966 owners, as I'm sure that

most of us are 55+ in age.

Any thoughts??

Or..... "Society in general" is already in the bowl on it's own.
Facebook is merely the flush.

Re: What happened ???

All the online forums that I participate in are suffering from the same circumstances. This format, which I enjoy, is in a retraction.

The other types social media are where people are going for instant exposure. I personally like the forum format as usually there is less fabricated drama. Also the forum brings a searchable structure for information long after the origional posting. Fakebook and the like are very difficult for a lengthy conversation on a subject, being geared for an easily distracted clientel.

I've been on the 47-53 board for a long time, just picked up a '64, so now I'm here. Seems like a great place, lots of info, such as the other board.

If it wasn't for this forum I don't think I would have gotten a lot of the things I've done to my truck finished. I think Acampodave (sp) raised a similar question sometime back about the board slowing down. I admit, there are things I did to my truck that I didn't share when I did them. Like adding a sway bar to the front (which if you haven't done do it!) The "what did you do to your truck today" thread seemed to always be in the top 10 of posts on the first page. I just searched for that thread and it is on page 4 midway down. We should be proud of our little truck community and share to inspire others. I hope this doesn't seem like a crazy post but, I learn, and get a lot of ideas from all of the input on this thread, which is greatly appreciated. Oh, almost forgot, I am 55+

Re: What happened ???

There are some companies consolidating their hold on websites over time and then "modernizing" the software. Everything they have done has made it a worse experience. Same company, FORA, provides the software. One wood working site I'm at has nothing but stuff about everything but wood working until you drill down. What's that all about?

I always hit this and a few other forums before I even think about FB. I've always loved the forums for the knowledge of the people that contribute

I also believe that Facebook and Instagram have taken some of the traffic from here. But you sure can't get the knowledge there that you can here.

I'll be here for a while, for sure.

I like being here and Learned a lot about my Truck here, fb can't replace that, it has no structure to find anything. Unfortunately, we don't have a C10 page in Germany, so it runs on Facebook, unfortunately. But it's a manageable little Community, it's Family.

In certain situations (like yours) I can see FB/IG as beneficial as it connects people. Once connected, sharing resources like this place is a better option in my opinion. The ability to search & find data/info has much value.

Re: What happened ???

I guess for some good news. I am a new member. When I first started researching 60-66 trucks, this forum showed up in every search. I started reading a lot of old threads which are invaluable. I had a little trouble registering and had reached out to some member who are also on Facebook for help. I eventually got in and am thankful for it. I come to this site before going to Facebook. I have posted questions on both sites and there is a reasonable difference in the responses. I try to take in as much information as I can from a variety of sources to constantly learn and get advice from people who have already finished and/or still working on their own trucks. I personally really like this site and will continue to come here as long as there are people here.

For what it is worth, the same problem has happened in couple other forums that I belong too for other hobbies. One has completely disappear. The other social media sites in my opinion do not have some of the basic features that these have. As many have said, it is about instant responses. I don't think it is even possible to search Facebook for old post. Here you can do that which is one of the things I like the best.

Anyway, I am new, like it here, and just under the 55+ range....

Re: What happened ???

I'm not a fan of social media and don't have Facebook and stopped using Instagram a while ago. Like mentioned, those places seem to be surfacy and not much meat on the bones. This site offers a well of knowledge and little to no drama...which I like. I don't typically have a lot to add to other threads but thoroughly enjoy following people's builds and answer a question or two when I can. This is the only stop for me when it comes to this hobby of ours. One day, I'll start my own build thread and contribute a little more.

Re: What happened ???

Facebook sucks for many reasons but I’ve had some pretty good luck on there . I spend most my time on there now. I’ve made a lot of new friends on Facebook, sold quite a bit much faster, and helped the truck people as much as I can. These are just a few of my Facebook finds among additional nos parts and adding to my sign collection.

Buying/selling has def shifted to FB Markerplace favor. Another reason I can't find much locally like I used to on Craigslist.

Re: What happened ???

I'm 51. I bought my '63 in 2018 in (of all places) FB marketplace. Its convinient to have an app that you can look at on your phone when you are on the toilet or whatever. So ease of access makes fb forums more attractive in that aspect. But yeah, these things arent getting any newer, and i guess neither are those of us that like these things. Coronovirus kind of messed everything up for me, so my project just sits. But hopefully one day i will dive into the project again.
