Tci street fighter tranny 700r4
I have a 383 in a c10 2wd. Just installed a 700r4 tranny. When driving it when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear i get wheel chirp. Is this normal with this type of trans?

Re: Tci street fighter tranny 700r4
Strikes me as a performance trans characteristic...firm. I've seen where the upshift took over a second, which to me meant clutches were getting toasted. Ask TCI what it should shift like. I personally like a chirp (at a minimum) on upshift. When I took the shell of my truck, with the stock 400 trans, it spun the tire going into second. It's a feature, not a bug. YMMV

Re: Tci street fighter tranny 700r4
You didn't mention the throttle setting when the tires bark.
At full throttle I would consider this normal for a performance transmission. Especially, with the light weight on the rears, in a truck application. At part throttle it is nothing but annoying. You might consider changing out the servo for a less aggressive one if it's at part throttle. Be cautious as any changes could void your warranty. Cheers |

Re: Tci street fighter tranny 700r4
I had a TCI street fighter 700r4 in my Nova years ago. It was the same, couldn't keep it from chirping the tires on the 1-2 shift. Even at low speeds. Was fun when there's a cop beside you... I got to where I could just let out of the throttle a bit just before it shifted and it wouldn't do it. It eventually broke it's self, and I had a trans shop fix it but it didn't last, so I had to get another trans to have rebuilt, they said the case was bad. Never had any troubles out of that one.

Re: Tci street fighter tranny 700r4
I bet they blocked the 1-2 accumulator circuit on purpose.

Taking the spring out of the accumulator is an option in the Trans-Go kit, iirc. It's been 40+ years since I put one of them in a vehicle.

I'd look at this thread. It seems to be a wealth of knowledge on 700R4s.
