68 k10 mounting questions
Looking to bolt an LS/4l60e into our 68 K10. Can I just use adapter plates that go from the stock v8 engine crossmember/mounts to the block? My crossmember is the early type that uses mounts with one bolt to the crossmember.
Ive looked thru a ton of threads here, still unclear to me on what adapters work and if Im gonna have to buy a complete new crossmember setup. |

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
with adapter plates , clamshell mounts will bolt to the LS, it will drop right in place where the smallblock was.. you can also use plates that have mutiple mounting holes , or sliders..
i used the stock location plates..commonly referred to as ebay plates..on my C30 but im not sure how it will work with your crossmember and the one bolt mount not sure on your trans crossmember..i changed to a 5spd and had to slide that crossmember back and drill new holes your also gonna have to do some trans adapting to get the transfer case back to the pass side

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
My plan for the transfer case is to use a 241c passenger side drop, move the crossmember where I need it, then have a couple drivelines built.
I would really like to use adapter plates with the factory crossmember, but really not sure about clearance |

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
In post #179 of my build thread there is a pretty good shot of 6.2 pan clearance to the aftermarket crossmember. The stock crossmember would have required some work to fit. BTW all the 67-72 K trucks use the one vertical bolt type mounts. Mine now has the newer style.

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
Got the 5.3/4l60e/208 combo in the frame. Bought an engine crossmember from EC Fab, worked great.
Wondering what everyone is using for trans crossmembers and front driveshafts? Ive been to driveshaft guys before, would love to bring him a core to work with $$ Seeing a ton of aftermarket crossmembers, but only listed for c10? |

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
I have a 72 K10 LS swapped. Used Dirty Dingo crossmember. As a side note the firewall for the 4x4 is different from the non 4x4. My 6.0 was very close to the firewall. When i swapped the TH350 for a 4L60E I moved the engine forward about 1" and used electric fans.

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
I used Pacific Fab/Tilden engine cross member. I did not have to move my stock trans X-member for my 4L60E. Check out my build thread.

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
I also used the Pacific Fab/Tilden crossmember. Maybe a different company now? http://www.pacificfabrication.com/
Have an LSA and adapter from Advance Adapters for the 6L90 to 205. The 6l90 is a bit longer than most trans but new adapter is shorter than stock one. Wanted to keep motor farther back and needed new drivelines anyways. So I needed to move the stock transmission crossmember back almost 2". AFAIK there is no difference in the 4x4 firewalls. Maybe the 67 trucks are different? Would like to know what the difference is by suburban99.

Re: 68 k10 mounting questions
Do not know of any transmission crossmembers for 4x4's. I built a riser/adapter for the stock transmission crossmember to fit the new trans/transfercase adapter. Custom adaptation. No disrespect, but expecting that there is bolt in solution for your situation or combination is maybe somewhat unreasonable. There are details in my build thread on what I made. Had to modify again when tcase was put in. "Custom"
