Turn Signal Lever Hard to Move
Evening everyone. Got an issue here that I can't seem to figure out.
I've got a 1984 C10. A few months back I noticed that my turn signal was getting harder and harder to move to the left and right to activate the turn signals. I replaced the turn signal switch in the column and it worked fine for a few weeks, and then the same thing started to happen again. I took everything apart and loosed up all the screws and then tightened them back down again. Same thing; worked great for awhile and then started happening again. This last time, I took it apart and used some dielectric grease on the moving parts thinking that maybe it just needed some lubrication. It's worked great for the past few weeks, but now it's doing the same thing again. As a side note, I also replaced the wiper control switch at the same time (I'm blanking on the correct term for the part, but where the turn signal stock attaches inside the column). Does anyone have any idea what's causing this and what I can do to fix it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

Do you have the correct mounting bolts? I think there is a shoulder on them so should stay easy to move

Unless someone monkey’d around in there before I owned it, they should be correct. But we all know about “previous owner syndrome”, so I’ll pull them out and check if they’re shouldered or not.

Maybe the springs are jamming up in the turn activator mech. cam or there a crack in the activator mech. cam somewhere and it's jamming. The only other thing might be short in the column, it may be getting good ground connection to the body.

One thing to consider is there are two different cancelling cams .. one for tilt and one for non tilt steering .. one is green and one is white … unless you changed it out it could be the incorrect one .. just something else to check when you are looking in the column
