Tilt column hub spacing?
Is there supposed to be a Spacer between the Canceling Cam an Steering Wheel Hub on my Tilt Column?
As I’ve said on previous threads, I bought the column used, so I don’t know if something is missing or not. The space in between the Cancelling cam and hub required me to fab a bushing so that the horn contact ring would keep in contact with the Spring loaded button. Is there a plastic spacer plate/dust shield that is missing? Like I said, I don’t know, so any insights will help. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Tilt column hub spacing?
So is there any insight into whether a spacer is supposed to be here?

Re: Tilt column hub spacing?
It has been a while since I looked inside of one, but I do not remember one.

It looks like you are using an aftermarket wheel. If so, there should have been one with the wheel kit if it needed one. Stock setup does not have a spacer. LockDoc

Re: Tilt column hub spacing?
Thank you to both.
Yes Doc, I am using a Grant Wheel. And thanks on the insight. I’ve got a piece of semi-ridged plastic that I can make the spacer I need. Originally I was thinking that the splines on the steering shaft were damaged but with a detailed inspection, they were just dirty and a little surface rust. I cleaned them up, and carefully ran a micro-file through each groove, and now it feels a lot better. |
