Ever been tempted to save a truck?

I just bought this "parts truck", but for the life of me I want to fix it.
It would be different if I didn't have a 1976 c20 rolling frame. a 1970 396/402-th400 combo.

No title, but I may see what I need to do to get one.

Re: Ever been tempted to save a truck?

As we say, "It's all there" . Ok, maybe not all. We also say, "There's something there to work with"

i have my eye on a 71/72 longbed medium green with aluminum cap sitting on the hillside, somewhat wooded, tree debris piling up I really want to see if they'll sell. Thus is at what once was a junk yard/towing business. I knew the owners, husband and wife. I also somewhat know the son who is now running just the towing end... barely. He has always been lazy, even back when they had acres of vehicles needing parts sold off of them. Everyone knew he was lazy and you were lucky to end up buying a part from him. No one allowed in the yard and he wasn't keen on getting off his rear to check. I'd go with a specific part needed and he would let be go back, escorted. They'd set the better more complete vehicles out front for sale for a while, and this Custom/10 was one. The yard is cleared out, but for a few vehicles and this pickup is one. I am sure it's a case where the truck is being allowed to rot and as soon as I ask about buying it will become a priceless classic. But one of these days when I feel I have time I will most likely be wasting I'm stopping by to see

Re: Ever been tempted to save a truck?

Yes OP you should save it!! There are LOTS of rolling chassis around, I see them pop up here all the time. They aren't making anymore of these beauties and full running trucks are getting harder to find!

Yes it is. That is why I'm thinking of trying to save it.

So they made a longer wheel base than the regular long boxes? Frame must be longer as well?

Re: Ever been tempted to save a truck?

This is on the original frame, so it's correct. I'm sure if you looked you could find a frame.

Not many made, I think less than 3k per year.

If you have seen what has been saved from the rust belt here, you wouldn't even have to ask. Got it running yet???

I hate that crap, at least the floor and cab corner rust is relatively consistent with our truck.
But sometimes i see A pillar rust gone crazy, and other trucks I see show no signs whatsoever.

Both of my cabs have the beginnings of A pillar rust.....

Not rust, looks like someone cut it out for a patch for another cab.
I will post a picture.

Re: Ever been tempted to save a truck?

I see pillars are reproduced nowadays. It think it would be good to get it going again. I very rarely see a parts truck in worse condition than my daily driver. I'm just amazed at what good trucks get parted out.

If I can't get a title, I'm going to put my GMC on this chassis and use the longhorn bed.

Cool Re: Ever been tempted to save a truck?

Why yes, I have years ago at junkyard that I used to frequently go to located near the college I attended back around 10 12 years ago in a secluded place of the yard they had what was left of a very base model 67 shorty. That had an inline 6 from probably a 63 in it and, it came out of the factory with a driver side sun visor but no passenger sun visor as well as a service body. But, being a typical Nebraska truck it needed pretty much one of everything. The frame was salvageable the bed was salvageable except the latches were not on some of the doors and the company has long since closed up shop but, for the bed everything was still there. The glove box was not there and he only wanted 650 for it I didn't have the room I still don't but I should have brought it home and I don't know if it's even there anymore.
