Custom Console ideas
I have seen some really cool console ideas here, and I was wondering about some other ideas besides building them yourself. I have seen grafted Trans Am consoles, and others.
What have any of you seen that works? I am contemplating going with one from a newer Trans am with an autoshifter, and somehow graft or otherwise attach a late model Chevy truck console to it with a flip lid and storage. I will also be adding black leather bucket seats also. Wutcha think???

I've been kicking this one around a lot since I found my junkyard Blazer buckets. At first, I thought I wanted to get them covered in a nice cloth and build a custom console (I'm fairly handy with wood tools) and have it covered to match. Then I got to thinking about how well that cloth would hold up. It seems truck seats get abused a lot more and the seams tend to tear out on that cloth.
Now I'm leaning toward buying the console from a 73-87 Blazer (I know where one is and I can probably get if for $25) and re-covering the buckets in black vinyl. I like how the Blazer console is somewhat similar to the original console and doesn't cover the heater vent on the floor. The downside is that if I built a custom console, that's where I'd put my stereo and I can't really do that with the Blazer console.

I built a console and it sits ontop of the center hump. I have two cupholders, and a place for my stereo and 4x4 shifter. It is setup for a bench seat, so it stops short of the end of the hump

Ive got 94 model bucket seats in my 72 and i built a console with flip up lip gearshift in it and goin to have dual cupholders Covered it with carpet for now like speaker box carpet
I didnt really have no design just kinda measuered what would look good and fit nice > ill get some pics posted up of it if you want to see it for ideas. I used 3/4 MDF glued all seams and mitered all angles So it could be covered with vinyl /tweed or cloth |
