Manifold/Header exhaust question

Thinking about going back more original. Are the ends of the manifolds and headers the same (the part that connects to the exhaust)? Thanks.

Re: Manifold/Header exhaust question

They are different. Manifolds use a donut gasket, and headers use a flat gasket. Some headers have a ball and socket that uses no gasket. Either way, this connection will be in a different location on headers vs. manifolds, so exhaust pipe modification will be required. Your exhaust pipes will need to be extended to reach the manifolds.

Re: Manifold/Header exhaust question

You don't mention what kind of truck you have. On my 4WD Blazer, when I installed the new engine I also got 2 1/2" rams horns to replace the headers. For a temporary fix until I built my new exhaust system, I bought a couple of 90 degree bend pipes - I think I got them from Speedway, but it could have been someone else. Anyway, I cut the header flange off the existing pipe and welded the 90 degree section onto it. It lasted well enough that I didn't replace it until I built my stainless steel exhaust system.
