need new clutch what and where to buy
I have a 68 C20 with the 327. Its a 3 speed truck. Where is a good place to buy a clutch kit and possibly a flywheel.
I do not want to go over board on the clutch as I would like to make this truck an automatic in a few years. I might change my mind if a new clutch fixes what I think is a bad clutch and it is fun to drive again. I was looking at Napa and Oreielys and Oreilys seems to have some very fair prices if I know for sure it will fit. any suggestions on what to buy? part numbers? Thanks Chad

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
I always purchase clutch parts local.
I would get a LUK clutch if possible. Such a simple item has turned into a cluster with all the China parts proliferation. Cheers |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
LUK is a good replacement clutch for stock motors. Many auto part "store brands" are either LUK or HAYS. Just stay with a full face organic compound disc vs some "puc" type disc. Puc type clutch is more for higher HP race use and not friendly on street driving because they are prone to chatter on engagement.
Replace the pilot bushing and T.O. bearing on any clutch swap |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
I find that most places do not list one for the 327 v8, I would assume if its for the V8 in general it will work just fine?

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
You need a 12" OD with 1 1/8" ID 10 tooth spline clutch
SACH is a decent brand I suspect it and all auto part store brands are made "offshore" now. Rockauto generally has best prices but there is shipping. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=1993&jsn=523 |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
on any auto part store website just enter your year, make, model, engine size
you would want a 168 tooth, flat FW https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=5348&jsn=461 |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
Unless it is severely heat cracked, or has other issues, you won't need a new flywheel.. Take the flywheel to a reputable machine shop and have the friction face ground down a smidge.

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
I'm down here in East Texas, a long way from St. Charles, Mi, so I have no idea what goes on up there.. I googled "machine shops in St. Charles, MI".. Five locations came up..
https://www.bing.com/search?q=machin...ANAB01&PC=LCTS Rodger's Crankshafts and Machine could surely do the job for you... |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
I used to be able to purchase surfaced flywheels from the independent auto parts dealer, when I used when I do it professionally. Drop off your old one and pick up the reground one.
Maybe it's still possible at some auto parts dealers? I would get a lifetime guarantee if the flywheel was resurfaced and could prove it. They are gone now, the internet put them out of business. I paid a little extra for the service, which was excellent. I didn't have time to price shop for a few $. When I had an issue it was easy to take care of. I do miss those days when the parts guys knew what they were doing. Cheers |

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
I take them to machine shop, usually $40. You can usually resurface a FW 2-3 times before they get to thin.....unless machine shop #1 took a bunch off

Re: need new clutch what and where to buy
RustyPie
yes there are machine shops near by but only Rogers listed will touch the flywheel but he is usually so busy that I might as well wait until winter to tear it apart as I wont have it for the summer. back in the early 90's we had a engine machine shop on every corner it seems. now they are fewer and fewer around. my goal would be to put the truck on the lift drop the tranny change the clutch and flywheel same day and put it back together. but I should know better that it would go that smooth lol.
