Monies gauge to aftermarket
Can anyone help? I have moonie gauges from a 91 and I’m in the process of changing to aftermarket, they all work except the speedo and I can’t find the wire needed to signal the speedo from the speed sensor. Thanks

Re: Monies gauge to aftermarket
The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is located behind/under the glovebox insert in my 94. Modified my vss with switches so I can easily change speedometer reading due to tire size and gear changes.

Re: Moonies gauge to aftermarket
Is that the Drac module? I don’t think mine has that. I googled the moonie swap and I think it was a common swap to the later 90s needle gauges, the drac allowed you to change calibration for tyre size etc. I may be wrong 🤷*♂️
Thanks anyway👍 |

I wonder if you could use the vehicle speed signal that goes from the gauge cluster to the cruise control module.

Re: Monies gauge to aftermarket
What year is your truck? If it is ’91 then the DRAC is integral to the gauge pcb. You might need to get a DRAC from a later year.
What does your aftermarket speedo require? The Speed sensor in the transmission might be enough for that. The reluctor ring creates 40 pulses per driveshaft revolution. The DRAC converts the 40 pulses to 128,000 pulses per mile for the RWAL Brakes, 4,000 pulses per mile for cruise control, and 2,000 pulses per mile for the ECM and speedometer. If you eliminate the gauge pcb these features won’t work and the alternator won’t charge. This is for ’88 to ’92. At a minimum you’ll need to add a resistor to the sense wire of the alternator.
