Mechanical fan clutch ID
Thinking about going back to a mechanical cooling fan on my LS swapped '89 Cheyenne. Looking on Car-Part.Com, they list 4 different codes for the clutch; BF, DL, GDJ, and GFZ. Does anyone know what these codes signify? I'm not sure if they're RPO codes. Thanks

Re: Mechanical fan clutch ID
I went on Rockauto and punched in a 2003 Silverado as I wasn't sure what engine you have. They are listing quite a few variations. Reverse rotation, heavy duty heater, A/C etc.

Re: Mechanical fan clutch ID
I don't know the codes but I think only the trucks/vans had the mechanical fan. Should be tons of them in the salvage yard. I bet all were the same diameter.

Re: Mechanical fan clutch ID
Those do not appear to be RPO codes....
Here is a link to a decent RPO decoder... https://decoderpo.com/pages/G.html ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Mechanical fan clutch ID
I just went back to a clutch fan as well. I used a couple different clutches new from auto zone and carquest. One was a hayden. None of them came on or off at the correct temperature. The hayden stayed locked up fully with the ac on the other I think was a duralast it was still engaged at 184. I got one from a junk yard. Work perfectly. On in town in traffic off on the freeway.
