Spark plug wires over or under?

350, Hooker headers. How are people running their HEI spark plug wires? I don't like looms, so the question is do I go UP over the valve covers or DOWN below the headers and then up to the HEI?

Have you ever tried to get regular sized wires into the original guide’s much less 8mm wires. Looms are your friends.

If you decide to go over the headers,
I have always used this type of holder in link below.
There are many different brands and price ranges of these.

Also, these work well with the holders.

...<snip>...
.

While I like the look of the wires rising up from below rather than above, I've never tried it. I've seen many examples out there...some better than others.

I have to agree with Getter-Done on that style of wire management. The wires can be controlled well with these...think twisting the wire to make it go where you want and then locking in that slight twist.

There's also those ceramic boots that look good and perform!

For me, I would pick the route that keeps the wires farther away from the exhaust. In general, with headers, that tends to be over the valve covers.

One option is to purchase the "Corvette wires" for a 1975. They have the correct ends, for the HEI, and will go under like the factory wires.

This is what I did. And I purchased the wire retainers for a Corvette as well. They come with one that attaches to a oil pan bolt for the front two wires.

Zip ties work great for wire looms and are dirt cheap. As seen on roadkill and you tube.

Re: Spark plug wires over or under?

Thank you for all the ideas and the pics.

The Hookers kinda suck in that they have a few really close-fitting spots for the plugs. I thought even about using the Accel shorty plugs.

I just don't like the standard loom thing.

I'm going to try both routings today and see what works. Not like my truck is a showpiece I think they're probably not long enough for the way under routing like the stock HEI 'Vette wires, but we'll see.
