Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

After a 3 year hiatus, I decided to jump back into the 67-72 camp. I found this 70 C/20 with a 402/TH400/3.54 on Bring A Trailer.
The auction was here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...rolet-c20-cst/
I took delivery here in Connecticut following a quick 5 day haul from Oregon. Drove it around 20 miles. It drives and rides great. The brakes need work as there's a long throw then it really grabs the fronts, practically locking them up. The horn doesn't work and the license plate light doesn't work (the bulb is fine) Otherwise I'm beyond happy with it. It will definitely take some will power to keep my right foot from getting heavy. The big block is effortless.
First thing I did was clean it with Comet and a Scotchbrite sponge. I'm pretty happy with the results.
I scored some ok condition period correct hubcaps on Ebay that I cleaned up and a friend is repainting the centers to that I'll be installing later in the week.

Thumbs up Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

Looks great. It will be even better with the correct design caps.

I've never seen that design master cylinder on that era truck. I wonder if that is part of the issue?

I scored some decent hubcaps on Ebay that cleaned up well. A friend repainted the centers. I swapped out the 16x7 rims and 265/75/16 Michelins off my 81 GMC; I'm pretty happy with the results.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

I lengthened the pedal rod for the brakes and adjusted the shoes so the brakes modulate a lot better.
It was quite the project as I had to drop the steering column to get the bolt of the rod end. Then I realized that the brake light switch wasn't totally disengaging because of the pedal height so I had to adjust that also to get brake lights.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

Sometimes it's the simple things....
The license plate bulb issue was simply a cheap plastic connector that went bad.
And I found another period correct hubcap for the spare. Still debating if I should keep the spare mounted like this or stick it under the bed.

I like mine in the bed also. Course now I have a tank where the spare was, so it's stuck staying in the bed.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

More "little things"....
Got some blue floor mats from LMC to match the carpet.
Metal wiper blades from NPD to replace the cheapie plastic ones.
Previous owner removed aftermarket cablights when gaskets fell apart and covered the holes with duct tape. Found these 1313 cablights - they look a lot better than white duct tape.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

Picking away at more little things during the northeast winter months. Luckily we haven't had any salt put down on the roads yet.
I got this headliner & trim at NPD. Used 1.5" industrial velcro to hold it up. Very happy with it so far.

Great score. Look good too....Only suggestion I would make is put the spare on the drivers side, better visibility.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

Got new hardware for the below eye-line mirrors including some jack nuts for some of the old stripped out bolts.
Did a rough paint touch-up around the mirror mounting points.
If it warms up this weekend I'll be putting on a coat of Penetrol to seal up the paint.

Re: Blue Bomber - 1970 Chevy C/20

Thursday night's project with the Bomber was putting some kind of clear coat over the tired old paint.
Super impressed with how Penetrol works.
Makes the paint really pop and works well on the black trim too.
