relay base
I am upgrading my headlights and need to install a couple 30A relays into the circuit. I have had no problem finding the relays but cannot seem to find relay bases anywhere. Anyone have an idea as to where I might find them?

use female spade connectors and zip tie them together. I used to do it all the time on amp racks when we were low on bases. Works the same.

Go to the nearest car stereo shop and they will hook you up.

Summit has them also PRF-80133 made by painless but they are a bit pricey.

Junk yards. New cars are loaded with relays, and the factory always mounts them. Look on firewalls, by fuse boxes, and rad core supports.

I got mine from Painless Wiring. Got them when I bought the entire wiring harness. Like the guys said....You can get them cheaper elsewhere. It was just convenient at the time for me.

This might be a stupid question, but just exactly how are you upgrading your headlights and why would that require a relay?

I had a friend that used to work at a car auido / stero place they had boxes of junk stuffed with all kinds of leftovers some wich included relay harnesses
I guess they hardwired them alot of soldered the wires straight to the relay other car stero shops are liable to do the same thing so you might get some freebies. |

Xenon or halogen bulbs ....That's what I'm doing. The Lucas style clear ones.

shuttermutt, just installing the relays alone will brighten up your 30 year old T-3 headlamps enough to make you wonder why you never did it before. Then once they blow out from the added voltage in a matter of weeks, you'll crap yourself with the amount of light that the plain old hallagons will put out.

I have halogens and relays supplying current right from the battery. My headlights are VERY bright.
I would do the relay swap before I spent any money on any headlight upgrades. Plus you'll never have to replace your headlight switch again because it no longer has all kinds of voltage running through it.
