Simple way to drain 71 blazer fuel tank
I've been laid up after having kidney cancer and felt like draining fuel tank after 5 years setting. My brilliant thought was to stick a harbor freight transfer pump hose thru the fuel filler opening. But of course with my luck the hose won't go in any further than about 16 inches.
So I have another idea about disconecting the tank line from fuel pump and place a cheap electric fuel pump connected to the line and drain that way. What are your thoughts. Don't want to do a lot of pulling and stretching. Can't think clearly being on these damn pain pills. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Re: Simple way to drain 71 blazer fuel tank
My Blazer sat for 7 years and I was concerned about accumulated junk in the tank. I put a clear filter on the fuel line (temporarily) and topped the tank off with fresh gas. I watched it for the first week or so after I got it running and then changed it. I haven't had any problems.
If you really feel like you need to drain it, you could disconnect the fuel line and make sure it's in a container that will hold all the fuel that will come out. Then pressurize the tank with air. I've used a nozzle with a rag around it to seal it off. I wouldn't use more than about 10 PSI.
