No front brakes
Driving a 72 C10 with stock front disc brakes and drum rears. Haven't changed the front pads for years so I decided to do just that. When I pulled off the pads they looked new with no wear. The piston was still pushed in like I would have done before installing new pads. This is both front brake sides. Apparently I've only been stopping on the rear all these years. What should I be looking for?
Another note. No brake light is coming on. Checked brake light switch and it's working working properly. All panel bulbs new. Both front sides have the same symptoms so I would think it's either the master cylinder or combination/proportioning valve. Proportioning valve is centered. Guess I'll change both so I only have to bleed once. Last edited by howzzzit; 06-02-2024 at 12:06 PM. |

Re: No front brakes
There's a valve in the lines by the master cylinder that makes fluid go to the front or rear when one end loses pressure. There's a little tool you're supposed to use when bleeding to keep the pin from moving.

Re: No front brakes
Check the hoses. In fact, after so many years, I would just change the hoses.

Re: No front brakes
Well, took it for a ride. Slammed the brakes a couple of times. Front working now. Must have been the proportioning valve. We'll see. Thanks for the help.

It must feel WAY better now. Put a lot of heat into the pads/rotors by stopping hard several times to bed the pads and season the rotors...then it'll feel even better. -Kevin
