Emergency brake cable frame mount differences

I have another odd dilemma with my old K20 frames. The mount for the E brake cable is usually a stamped tab in the side of the frame. My 75 K20 frame has this beefy bracket riveted to the frame to mount the cable. I thought they must have changed it to the stamped tab to save money and labor in 1976. I checked my 74 frame and it also has the stamped tab. This makes no sense unless my 74 does not have the original frame. Has anybody else seem this type of bracket? I have a pic of them, the stamped tab is on top and the beefy bracket next.

The other odd thing is this beefy exhaust hanger. I have never seen this on any of my other square bodies either. Has anybody else seen this beefy exhaust hanger?

oops gat a security message when adding pics. I will try to add them in the next post.

Yeah, I figured it was pretty rare. It's probably a Camper Special thing or some military prototype that never got approved. It's a mystery for sure.

Re: Emergency brake cable mount differences

I have a stamped tab on my 76 frame. The problem for me is that I don't know what this frame was originally on.

At a truck show last year, I saw a stamped tab on an mid 70's K5 blazer. I've looked at a lot of frames and had never seen a stamped tab otherwise.

Re: Emergency brake cable mount differences

My 1975 C35 frame had the stamped indentation. My (M1010 I believe not sure) K30 frame and 1986 M1009 blazer both have the riveted brackets.

My guess is it was probably one of the many 1981+ changes.

Re: Emergency brake cable mount differences

That is interesting that the cucv trucks used a bracket like that. Mine is a 75 frame though. I'm not so sure the E brake bracket is a better design. It seems there is more chance to snag it on obstacles.

Re: Emergency brake cable mount differences

Not only are the brackets different the entire ebrake system was redesigned in 1984 according to LMC. I found out the hard way that even the backing plates are different for the rear drums.
