Purchased a 72 C30 Longhorn, but have conflicting info on the motor that's in it.

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

1964 283
1965 409
1967 427
1969 396

Built at the Tonowanda engine plant on July 3rd.

Refer to the casting numbers on the back of the blok for the exact date of casting.

Thanks, I had it pinned down to a 69 Chevelle 396
But didn't think that seemed right.
Was planning on pulling this out & selling, if this is accurate does it have much value? Seems to be fairly common.

According to the site, the engine came from a '69 Camaro, 325 HP, 4 bbl carb, and a powerglide transmission.

Correct, 396s are pretty common. Your engine's condition weighs greatly on its value.. It could be anything from a nice boat anchor, to the foundation for a race engine. If your engine runs, leave it in place until you find a buyer.. Let the prospective buyer hear and see it run. Sitting on the garage floor, it's simply a pile of cast iron..

Here's something that might sway your decision to sell. The big block 402s of the era of our trucks was actually a 396 bored .030"...

I'd double check your block casting number again, I don't see a 3969864 listed, there is a 3969854 which would be a 400/402 69-72 Chevelle/Camaro or 70 Nova or 70-72 truck. But with the partial VIN stamped it wont be a truck block since VIN stamping truck blocks did not start until '73.
The Lime Book shows the JA stamping for 396/325hp 1969 Chevelle/El Camino backed by a manual trans.
