Drop Springs and shocks questions

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here - still have the same truck. Had a question regarding 3” drop springs and shocks.
I heard from one individual that 3” drop springs are not the way to go, they cause the truck to bottom out. What he said was, When they compress while driving and suspension loads/unloads. they are able to move in the pockets.

Is this true?

Are all drop springs basically the same? As far as quality and getting a smooth ride?
Do I need shorter shocks for 2 or 3 inch drop springs?
Is there a superior brand of shocks and/or springs available to achieve better ride quality?

My truck is a 63, however, the front clip is out of a 1974 C20.

Re: Drop Springs and shocks questions

Front springs? A 3/4 ton coil w/a 3" will go. But the alignment comes into play when a coil & one half is removed. Most trucks (15 inch wheel) are 8" off the ground (A-arms) so every inch drop puts them that much closer to the road. A lot of guys will go 2 1/2" spindle drop & a 1.5 inch coil for 4" max. Good & not cheap shocks are the way to go.

Yes, I was referring to the front.

Here’s a pic of the truck - that white piece of paper is 3” tall.

The rear was just finished, new springs and bushings.

Re: Drop Springs and shocks questions

Here are pics before the rear 2" drop springs were installed.
And, it was the entire front suspension installed.
