Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Hasn't been too many exciting crawls lately. Had a yard owner about an hour and a half away call me and say he was selling the yard and the new owner doesn't care much about the old stuff.
So off I go like a herd of turtles in a wind storm. Spent a few hours walking around and taking it all in. Too bad they are all MN rusty! We talk for awhile and i tell him i am interested in some things and some deals were made.
Went back on the weekend with a trailer and hauled some stuff home.

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Keep in mind the green gmc WITHOUT axles under sitting buried in the dirt in front is one i thought, Hmmm lets grab this one.
I had a pair of axles from my 69 project truck and figured i would just put them under it in the parking lot... Boy, i am not as young as i used to be but i won the battle...

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Looks like a truck again and i got a title with it. The box is pretty decent by minnesota standards, but not rust free for sure.
If anyone wants to ID the engine, please do...

I guess the ID numbers on the engine didn't show up in the pic.
Here is some more junk i hauled home. The 3 trans cases i had to wrestle from out of a bus body out in the woods. I had a workout that day...

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Last pics... i walked by this square body gate a few times before the owner said he thought it was a nice one. It was outside up on some pallet racking about 6 feet in the air. Had to haul that home!!! I cleaned it up tonight.

Hope you enjoy my latest adventure...

That sure is a pretty Tailgate. I've heard the Squarebody tailgates fit our trucks, except they come up a few inches higher, and the body contour lines don't match.
My '71 Jimmy has the later model GMC metal attached like that one.

My blue 8' Fleetside bed trailer needs a tailgate. But yours is Too Nice, and Too Far from Tucson.

Those are 205's
They are worth the wrestle.
Especially since it was you and not me.

Just kidding I would have Drug them out.

Is there any 67 stuff?

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Since that green unit is a GMC, I can't even identify what year it is. If it was a chevy...
Being a 4 barrel, I'd think it would have to be a 327 or 350. Couldn't be a 283 or 307, they were 2 barrel only.

Job well done on getting those parts. man I'm glad you had a working relationship with the yard owner.
Did that bench seat still have the original upholstery?
Junk yarding is something I enjoy!!!

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Looks like the spid matches the cab, the vin in the cab should give you the year.
Don't see the grill clearly enough to tell if its 69-70 or 71.
Can't be 72 from door panels.
Is there the bump out for rearview mirror on cab roof?

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

Cab can't be 72 door (panels and vent windows)
Does the cab roof have the bump out for rearview mirror (71 only)
Picture not clear enough to tell if grill is 69-70 OR 71-72.
Spid looks original to cab VIN should tell you the year.

Pretty sure it is a take off gate. Do you call it a 77 because of the yellow paint stripe?

Bad thing is there are more of them in the bus but i would have to get them out. Tough without any help. There is a 67 cab that has a lot of the work done to it, and a complete 67 the owner was debating keeping.

The gmc is a 71. I don't think the engine is original as the heads are the old style. The yard owner thought it was a 64 327 from an impala. Looks like it may be a builder at best.
The seat is an original from a 69 cst. It also had the early headliner which i didn't grab...yet...

I got the radio delete was it. I debated buying the whole truck, but it is rough. Pretty sure something is living in it also...

I believe the 71 only bump out was there, and yes it is a 71.

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

The intake on that engine is for a Quadrajet.. I don't know what year the Quadrajet was first used on pickup engines.
I believe the Quadrajet's very first year of use (on whatever) was 1965..
I think I've seen the old Rochester 4 barrell on 66's , 4G? or Carter WCFB?
I don't know how to decipher block numbers. Many folks here do.
That number behind the driver side head seems to be the determining factor...

Good deal on grabbing that stuff Eric. I need to go back up to my local yard in a day or two and pick up a few things for the '69.

Re: Been awhile, how about another "junkyard crawl"

That is a pretty awesome find, wish that kind of yard was closer. Most of the yards around here are strictly newer vehicles. One has a lot of 85' square body for some reason but much newer after that.
Good job wrestling those cases out of the bus too.

Hey Eric- these are in your area, looks like a '67/'68 pick up and whats left of a Blazer. The woods are full of stuff it seems.
