drivers side wiper

Hello,

This morning while driving to work and it was raining. I had my wipers on and the drivers side wiper came off. I pulled over and retrieved the wiper arm. When i got to work I noticed the spline cap that goes on the wiper linkage was still inside the bottom of the wiper arm. Does the spline cap supposed to stay on the wiper linkage? Or does it easily come off. Attached is a picture of what im talking about.

Thanks,
Ramiro

The splines are supposed to be integral with the wiper transmission assembly.

Yep, it's not supposed to come off. I'm not even sure what holds them in place, but in about 60 years of fooling around with vehicles, I have never seen one come off.

Stocker it was a aftermarket wiper transmission linkage. I believe i may have the original linkage. Now to go look for it in my garage.

Looks like the metal was peened over to retain the splined part
