In-cab fuel tank mounting pads (1972)

I'm replacing the in-cab tank in my 72 and purchased a few mounting pads from Classic Parts (PN 23-325). I "thought" I was purchasing the large pads akin to the rear cab wall sound deadening, but what showed up was small 3" by 3" (approx) little generic thick tar paper pads that I'll need to use some sort of adhesive to attach to the back of the inner cab wall (or to the tank itself more likely). But when I pre-fit the tank, there don't seem to be any points of contact where the tank body actually contacts the rear cab wall, it only really touches the cab at the actual attach points (and a few non-tapped, protruding parts of the rear cab wall like where the upper mounts are, but just not tapped for tank holders - you can see in the pic between the two upper mounting tabs). So, I'm curious if & where you all have instaleld any of these rather small tank mounting pads - and how (I plan to use 3M HD adhesive, but interested in other ideas as well). Almost makes sense to cut them up and mount between the tank and the cab mount - with the mounting bolts right thru them, but I've just not seen these before, may not need them at all. Thanks for any insight!

Interesting. Did you get enough of them to put 1 at each bolt?

no, there were only 4 in a set, so I bought two sets - but there was also no indication how big they were (or weren't) in the Classic Parts description - but they are clearly generic being labeled 49-72 (which makes me wonder what could possibly be different about the back of the cab on a 47-48 from a 49... ha).

I'm thinking they intended you to cut it up and put a small piece between the cab and tank through which you would punch each screw. Plus add some more points for good measure where there is no screw but potential contact. I don't recall my 69 having anything like that from the factory. The tank was just screwed in.

Thanks and I am leaning toward doing that - nothing else makes much sense since I see no other contact points. I think it was probably a waste of money, ha, but it wouldn’t be the first time. Thanks again for the reply!

Here's where the factory pads were on a 1968. 3 on each side. All of them on that bracket your 72 probably doesn't have.

Well, hmm. It didn’t even seem like my tank touched the cab wall near the bottom of the tank. Very interesting.. which bracket are you referring to that a 72 probably doesn’t have?

That separate piece that is not the back wall of the cab or the floor of the cab. It is basically an L shaped piece that is spot welded to to the wall and floor that has the cab mount nut captured in it. I'm pretty sure after sometime in 1968 they quit putting them in.

I'm posting the picture of the other side, just because...
