Door Gaps Round 2
Afternoon Guys I think I've got my Drivers side door as good in the rear of the door the hinges on the a piller post are all the way forward so any ideas how to close the gap on the front door frame to the A piller if I open up the hinge holes to get the door forward more I'll mess the gap I have at the back of the door I'm probably going to cut a slice on the A piller and open it up alittle I feel I can't open to much it won't look right any ideas Guys Thanks

Re: Door Gaps Round 2
A quick flip for clarity.
For most the door gaps on vintage vehicles is all about compromise, where you balance the gap widths you're given for the best visual appearance. Our trucks were manufactured in the days before truck buyers considered things like door gaps in their buying equation. The drivers door on my Burban actually needs the window frame cut loose and welded back on in a slightly different position. In 1966 it was good enough for GM. And if I were to really dive down the panel alignment rabbit hole I would have to cut the roof off and correctly fit it to the windshield frame. That may actually be the reason the door window frame fits poorly. Then there's the whole front edge of the door sits lower than the back edge of the fender by design. For me my time was needed on more pressing repairs to the truck. Chasing gaps is a struggle of continuously diminishing returns for one's efforts. Are your hinges rebuilt factory ones or reproductions? If it was me I'd be slotting the hinges and moving the door forward.
