Re: cowl seal rubber??
Under.
It won't last if it's held down only by wee screws.

Re: cowl seal rubber??
I would stay away from that seal with the 90 degree angle and get one that is already folded over. In my experience they push the hood up too much. Here is a thread about it.

Seals the rear edge of the hood to the cowl.

Re: cowl seal rubber??
I wouldn't say it needs to be sealed, but it keeps hot engine bay air on one side and rain water on the other side. Cowl seals are pretty ubiquitous across all makes/models.

Re: cowl seal rubber??
This explanation of the rear hood to cowl seal was just given by fellow member AussieinNC in a thread about fresh air induction on the "Engines and Drivetrain" section of this forum. He seems to know his stuff so I'll repost it here...
My 2 cents worth here... The cowl area on a C-10 truck (actually any vehicle really) is under positive pressure. This is due to the high pressure air that flows over the hood and windshield creating a high pressure area, while the engine bay is a low pressure area. When the engine bay becomes pressurized, it reduces or prevents air from flowing through the radiator, which is not ideal for cooling. The cowl strip and other components are designed to prevent this from happening, allowing for proper airflow and cooling of the engine. The cowl seal to the hood should be in excellent condition. |

Re: cowl seal rubber??
I just used some SS pan head sheetmetal screws of the appropriate size. You can barely see a couple of them in this picture (best pic I could find on my computer at the moment).
