2004 Silverado donor question
Good morning everybody bought a 2004 Silverado for just the engine trans and computer. I have someone interested in buying the truck complete after I take out the motor and trans. first time doing this type of swap. Is there anything else I can use from the donor vehicle before I sell it? Thank you in advance. And just curious, how much would be a reasonable amount of money to ask for for this truck without Engine and trans
FYI, it’s going into a 72 Long bed |

You can't ask that question really. But in general it depends on your level of tolerance for junk in your driveway. You can probably make more money parting it out. Doors, tailgate, wheels (especially with good/matching tires) front end parts, bumpers, maybe bed (especially if short), maybe rear end, maybe column-all may sell quickly if in good shape but all the rest may be a slow sell. And then you have to deal with a non-rolling cab and frame. May be just as well to punt it to someone with the ability to part it and just move on to the swap phase on your '72.

thanks for the info. Other than taking the motor and trans, I decided to pull the front bench to hopefully use and cats to resell. itll help since we are in a budget. thanks for the response. i might just punt it to someone else for them to part out when i take the stuff, im already getting the look from wife (more cars!!!!lol)

If I had the room I'd keep the entire truck intact until my project was done.
I don't have the luxury. But I'd keep everything in the engine bay from AC condenser to firewall. At least the entire harness from engine bay including fuse box and mounting brackets, maybe dash and column as well if there was any thought about column swap or needing gauges for first run. Motor and trans mounts, driveshaft. linkages, throttle pedal. Fuel pump if not entire tank, Fuel lines and fittings are a starting point. The 2004 exhaust probably fits with some tweaking (I have one muffler back under a LS swapped Sonoma so it should fit a full size if you are leaf spring) If not the entire exhaust, the rubber hangers including the steel bars from both exhaust and truck side are great to re-use. Any reason to swap rear axles? if so keep the rubber brake line up to and including the end of hardline so you can reuse fitting, ebrake cables. Shocks? bump stops? If your wood bed floor needs doing consider the dimensions of the donor truck bed floor for fit. While you are at it see if the trailer hitch might fit. If you need to rewire your rear lights there is 12 feet of harness right there that will also have the connector for fuel pump Depending on the condition of your truck you might also spot stuff in interior other than the seat to hang onto. visors, seat belts, switches See how long I made the list? That is why I would hang onto it if I could. The hulk is not worth much and becomes an eye sore as soon as you sell any sheet metal. I'd probably unload it free or cheap as no-one buying individual panels for a 21 year old truck is going to be easy to make money off. |

there is some little stuff you need to remove especially if you are on a tight budget.
drive shaft yolk (keep entire driveshaft u may be able to cut it down and re use complete wiring harness (Engine) Exhaust system (front part coming off manifolds, 02 sensor connects) if tight on money just get the original harness modified, save money not buying new one Gas petal and system DO NOT cut any wires disconnect every one of them. The ends connectors can be very important and re install This are just some of the things I've seen people have to re buy as they sent the donor to the wrecking yard and had to re buy. Try not to break or cut anything, it will add to your cost. I'm sure others will add to this. I want to add; I just helped a 1st timer do a conversion after he got rid of the donner and the other recommendation is install the transplant as complete as you can and don't start replacing oem parts with aftermarket parts until u get it running. Then replace one part at a time. My friend replaced parts before it ran and caused issue after issue with this crap people are selling from China AND US. if something doesn't work the 1st time always keep in mind it could be a defective part not your labor and fault. Once you have that you can pull the engine, pile all the ugly donor harness, fuse box and ecu on the inner fenders and have a running driving truck. Then you can either start to thin out and reroute the factory harness or install and debug an aftermarket harness knowing you have a working starting point. |
