New to me K10 Burban, needs love
Hi there, long time looker here, not sure if I have posted before.
I have a 67 C10, 90 K5, and a 67 K10 burban that JUST 10 mins ago arrived home (while we are not there, so it will be kind of a mess when the wifey sees this land yacht parked on the driveway) It looks good from 10feet, but needs A LOT of TLC, as the guy that had it did a very low cost "resto". Its an original K10, now with a 5.7 vortec with a SM465+np205. I'll have to solve some steering issues, replacing the fuel tank/pump that has an external that makes more noise than the engine, some ring and pinion issues (mismatched front and rear so no front driveshaft) fenders, tailgate... and just starting to look at it. Im having a hard time figuring parts for it, LMC and others does seem to show compatibility with other K10 parts on suspension and steering, but not all of them, and for instance the rear tailgate it seems to be not available as new repro parts... I dont like the wheel and tire combo, its a 275/65/17 sort of highway tire and to me it seems small, would like a taller wheel, 33 or maybe even 35. But couldnt find a lift kit that will positively confirm fitment. Will really apreciatte help & guidance from the more experienced guys here. Thanks! |

Unfortunately no reproduction parts for tailgates, hatches or barndoors. Watch the classified section. Did anyone mention we like photos? ![]() Here is a photo I grabbed of a 70 front axle. (Thanks member derototeut)

Thanks for replying.. I know there is plenty of wisdom here..
For instance can someone confirm if this LMC diagram is accurate? In mine the center bar and tie rod ends conect from the top of the spindle, not the bottom. With the wife, as the guy on Chernobil series said, "not great, not terrible". At least we (burban, wife, and me) are still at home!
Going on... I'll upload some pictures soon, she looks great at distance, knows how to makeup, the problem is once you start "looking the details" lets use that expression to avoid using more dating lingo thats kind of forbidden these days.. The front axle from the picture has the bar/tierods bolted from the top, just like mine, might it be that LMC is wrong? also as said my center bar is bent, and had not found any replacements for sale. There were more surprises too, so I'll be showing them as time allows... Thanks! |

Congrats on your new Sub. LMC diagram is not wrong, its showing the 70-72 front axle. The 67-68 is unique and is similar to the 60-66 front axles. If your front axle is original it is a closed knuckle with drum brakes and manual steering. Its harder to find parts for this axle. Your steering box is different and the way it functions is also different and most parts in the LMC catalog will not work on your axle/steering. I have a 68 and changed out my axles to upgrade to power steering and disk brakes. Nothing wrong with the original axles but it is harder to find the correct parts and requires more maintenance.

That makes sense...
I believe front axle is original, and was adapted with disk brakes from a latter model and a power steering box from LMC (pic attached), thats not meant to the model (and its weirdly/uglily" installed) The steering "hand" or so called "boomerang" is also flat and different from what I have on my 90 K5, and from that LMC diagram. The more I look, the more issues I see... |

Yeah previous owner did install PS on this, successfully to some extent..
It steers, with power assistance, both good things! haha, but it does weird things, for starters, it turns much more to one side than to the other, so maybe the pitman is incorrectly clocked, but weirder enough, when steering fully (almost locking) to the left (driver side) the whole body "climbs" gets lifted like 3-4" (completely noticeable) and then when turning to the right it goes down again. There is a lot of "creative fixes" on this everywhere I look I found more. On related issue, im missing one of the tailgate strikers or catchers, LMC sells them but as 73-91 only, can any one confirm if they will work? or have one of those to sell me?? |

I don't know if the '73-On stuff works.
I did find out the Blazer hatch catches are very similar, and can be modified. You might have to flip them over and use Left on Right, but they are close enough to work. They are available from K/5 Scalpers, but not cheap at all. I had that same asymmetrical steering and P/S Gearbox jumping. Careful you're not breaking the mounting bolts on the frame attachment. Mine was shearing Grade 8 1/2'' bolts [with 5/8 or 3/4 nuts]. That's why I tried to go back to Manual Steering, but it had been messed up too much, and good steering geometry was never recovered

I'mTry reaching out to member Richard2717 for strikers, he has parted out several Burbans and may have what you need. If he doesn't have any try member Classic Bowties.
