Factory paint sequence
Trying to get some good idea of how cab with doors was painted. I believe interior was done first. Paint break exterior/interior seems to be at weatherstrip pinchweld for jamb. The door I don't know. I see some pictures that show paint break at rear of door like the door was just closed and painted so just rear edge of door got exterior color and a lot of exterior color overspray in hinge area like you'd expect painting without fender on.
Thanks |

Re: Factory paint sequence
Thank you. I saw a lot of those but still trying to figure out order, interior first or body color first. I can see what looks like fawn overspray on the body color.

Re: Factory paint sequence
Interior was painted first. And depending on what assembly plant built the truck along with , is it a Chevy or GMC all makes a difference . I can try and help based on what plant yours was built at with original paint trucks . I know you have a 1966 Chevrolet 292 Stepside ? If I remember correctly .

Re: Factory paint sequence
My 1965 Janesville built long bed original paint
, the entire front door jamb was painted exterior color . Only if you open the door do you see the fawn interior color. Other assembly plants you see much more fawn

Re: Factory paint sequence
Very helpful. Yes it’s a 66 97 inch stepside Chevrolet C20. I don’t know if I ever checked what plant it was built at how do you do that?

Re: Factory paint sequence
It's the 7th character from the end.
So J100001 would be a Janesville truck serial number 100001. F = Flint H = Fremont A = Atlanta S = St Louis https://gsitlc.ext.gm.com/dealerworl...et%20Truck.pdf etc. K

Re: Factory paint sequence
Definitely a Fremont Ca built truck . I'm working on one now and there's a lot of fawn showing on the front of the door jamb. Hinges are covered though.
Also I found 2 build sheets in the seat so hopefully you did as well ?

Re: Factory paint sequence
It also looks like the door stay was in place when painted. I will put those in. On the pillar side the stay was attached to the bracket with a bolt and nut, that doesn't seem correct?

Re: Factory paint sequence
They were definitely roll pins , not bolts .I would try to find a parts truck and take the original pins out . They are slightly flared at the top .

Re: Factory paint sequence
Pretty sure factory was a roll pin. At least on my 63 it was.
