U-Haul or RYDER ????
Has N E one ever put our, 67-72 1/2 or 3/4 t, trucks into the box on a rental truck? I know you'd have to knock out the back window or have a slider to get in/out. Didn't do a search, just thought I'd ask.

if youre going to use either id recommend ryder for starters their trucks are heavier duty, and therye less picky. the thing is if you put your truck in a box truck, your truck has no place to be tied down and it may or will shift or slide ont he smooth metal or wood floor. you need to be able to chain down a truck when you tow it or truck it " a body in motion tends to stay in motion"

Ryder all the way...and if memory serves, there might be tiedown locations inside the box trucks. if you were transporting large pieces of antique furniture, you'd want to have them tied down.
hope they make a truck wide enough to fit a 67-72 inside. good luck getting out, too! you could always leave the driver window all the way down, and slide out that way, then put a tarp or sheet over it while in transit.

Where are you thinking about moving it 67SSS? Need other ideas?
I wouldn't put my truck in a box truck for many reasons including the key ones Old Rusty shares. There are better ways. If I rent trucks, I go first to Penske now. Two of their rentals in the last year for my church, both were flawless. My best experience before them was Budget. Uhaul is my last choice for rentals. They never had competitive price and my former experience (long ago) was less than great trucks. Ryder hasn't gotten a rental from me in a long time. I have researched it again about a year ago and price varied a lot! Penske has Freightliner diesels with 5 speeds in the 24' box around here and they also had the best price last time. Then they gave the church an extra good sized discount too! I said thanks!

Isn't it illegal to transport vehicles in the back of trucks like that anyway? Oh well I wanna put mine in the back of a truck to weigh it and get more money. I've rented penske once and i about burned out the tranny in that sucker. But they were by far the cheapest company i looked at. I"m moving again so I'm doing this search thing again, and I'm gonna see what ryder will do for me. If not Penske again

Well, Freightliners suck ass, but not nearly as much as any U-haul piece of crap.
My company has 9 Freightliners. The cabs and interiors remind me of a Yugo in truck form. |

rental trucks
I would have to agree with a few of you that think freightliners suck. I drive one everyday,VW THING had a better ride than these things, but no-one has answered my first question, has N E one ever put one in a rental van....I was thinking about making a road trip with a rental van AND a vehicle trailer.
THANKS. |

I hauled a '71 Bronco and a whole household in the back of a 24' U-Haul with no problems from NoCal to San Diego.

U hauls are all sacked piles of garbage. I drove one around in Hawaii for two months, and it broke down on me 4 times, things like blown rad hose, broke a serpintine belt and the muffler even fell off the damn thing, but it was a big block so it sounded sweet LOL, the U haul car haulers wont haul anything bigger then a sedan, I had a 79 1 ton 4x4 on one of those and the back tires were only 1/3 on the trailer, not to mention the fact that the trailer had 4 miss matched tires

WRMZ71,
I posted this question before>>>>>The genaral Idea I got was that it was not a good idea!! Here is the previous thread: Moving a truck I hope it helps a little. I too was hoping to get more money, it was better I didn't try and use trickery and stayed on the up and up. The place where I weighed my truck was doing random checks.

Hey Jorgensen that was a good thing you did then. Knowing my luck I'd get caught. I just had a buddy do that but he took it even further. He loaded his friends nissan truck up in the back then went to walmart and bought a bunch of those platic totes and filled em up with water. He then proceeded to tell me how he stacked about 25 or 30 cinderblocks on top of those. He said when he pulled up to the weigh station there was water dripping everywhere from the box of the truck but nobody noticed cause it had just got done raining. To say the least he got 5 grand back for his move from NC to california
