Does saw dust really fix a tranny?
My buddy had this tranny that was slipping soooo bad last week.......this morning I drove it and it shifted hard and nice and I figured he had it serviced or replaced.....when I asked him what was serviced, he said he put about 2 1/2 cups of extra fine saw dust in it......I thought it was just a myth....but let me tell ya....it shifted damn nice considering it needed a new tranny a week ago.......has anyone else done this? I've done the aspirin in the battery thing and it works great.

That is what gave a lot of used car dealers a bad name. The quick fix.

Ive only heard about using that on autos. Why would you use it on a diff or manual tranny. Its all gear driven and an automatic uses hydralic pressures. The sw dust makes it 'grab' better. As for that fix, ive used it in my demo car. And thats about how long the tranny lasted, long enough to win, i pulled it on the trailer. When i went to pull it off the next day it wouldnt move.

I've heard of putting saw dust in a rear diff that is making noise. I guess it muffles the noise long enough to get it off the used car lot.
I never heard about asprin in a battery before, what does that do? |

I think the sawdust fills in and takes up the gap on parts that have excessive wear. You guy's got it right......Report back in a week....lol

I had always heard car dealers doing the sawdust with manual trans and rear diffs.. It was done to hide noise, and as stated before, "fix long enough to get off the lot".
I don't think it will work long in the auto. The filter should clog and stop working due to no pressure.

I've also heard an old instructor say that a BANANA will quiet down the rear end howling. The key is you have to use the peel of it too.

Brake fluid also helps slipping autos or trannies that are missing gears for like 50 miles. When I got my Delta, in about 75 miles, the reverse went out. We dropped the pan, and guess what was in it? That's right, Brake fluid. It swells all of the gaskets and stuff, but it also eats them and severely shortens their life span. The forward gears worked fine, it was just reverse that gave out.

I know a guy that would dump Comet cleanser down the carb of a lightly smoking vehicle if he wanted to off it real quick. He called it comatizing and claimed it would help the rings seal by roughing up the cylinder walls......Perfectly normal.....If you knew the guy...LOL. I could never tell a difference after he did it though.
